I don't use rugs in the dining room either due to the reasons you mentioned. Felt pads under the table legs and chairs will prevent any damage to the floor. Just make sure you inspect and replace them regularly as they can get worn out.

Look for chair socks on Etsy and get rid of the rug.

So you've answered your own question. 86 the rug and put felt on the bottom of the legs of everything. I might consider rubber on the bottom of the table so it doesn't move.

I really was not asking your opinion on the decor aside from the rug--- but since you volunteered, it's really none of your business, don't you think?

The suggested (above) table runner would be nice if you're worried about a bare look without the rug. Or maybe introduce a smaller textile element somewhere else, like on the console table, a wall, or even a pad for the bench?

I would remove the rug. Felt pads work well but I agree, get extra so you can change them when worn.

Great space. Love the arches. You could get a ruggable to add softness and color. I'm feeling red tones but I don't know what else you have in your other rooms. Maybe teal? Lower mirror and goodbye to all twig things (sorry).
