DIY? First off you did a great job! I like it, I think it goes well, but if you hate it that much you should change it.

It looks fine on my monitor. It looks like a light gray though, but you say it is white.

Only you can decided to redo. Since you claim to be indecisive, then no harm done if you give it

some time. You can always rip it out and start over.

The backsplash looks pretty. I might remove the word art "Eat". Honestly, "Eat" overshadows your lovely kitchen. You made some beautiful choices, and have a good eye.

I too am trying to figure out what you don't like about it. Is it because it's so white compared to the dark cabinets? I have brown cabinets, not as dark as yours, and went with a white backsplash myself and I really like it.

It's all great but you do have mostly smooth cool surfaces . The floor has the wood which is the break from everything. I would look for some bold patterned and colored mats or runners as the complement to dark cabinetry and smooth tile. Lowering the pendants could be something as well. Do some small things around the space. It's all just fine.

I think it looks good, and I think you did right to choose white. Your cabinets are very dark and would make the kitchen 2 dark if you had a different backsplash

I'm in the "It's lovely, give it some time" camp. And I empathize about the second-guessing. I make myself nuts with it.

We had our roof replaced a couple of years ago - agonized over the color and finally picked. I came home the day it was done, pulled into the driveway, and was horrified. I HATED it. DW said "give it some time, you just aren't used to it", I did, and now I love it. Same thing happened when we painted our bedroom.

Live with it for a few days/weeks before you tear it all out. It's really quite lovely, and you did a beautiful job.

I'm so happy that most of you like it. that does make me feel better. in answering some of your questions it's really the contrast of the countertop and the tile that bothers me.

Do you mean that the tile is a bit cooler toned than the countertop? Maybe a bit, but it still looks quite lovely. I'd keep it.

On my screen, I see a slight greenish/gray tint which ties in with your wall color. I think it looks good as well and before you rip it out, live with it for six months before making a decision. It'll likely bother you far less then than it does now and if not, then you could start over with something else. Personally, I'd rather put that money towards something else.

Yeah, matching neutrals is hard to do.

Want to know why I had surgery on my finger? I demoed glass tile and unbeknownst to me my “cut” healed with a shard of glass in it lying right on my tendon. How much would it have cost me to hire someone to demo the tile? Maybe $200. How much did I spend on the surgeon and anesthesia after insurance? About $800. For me it wasn’t the cost, I just wanted to do it myself. This was beyond stupid as I could have permanently deformed and lost the use of my finger.

I know you want to change the tile. You did a great job installing it, but my advice would be to hire someone else to demo this and put up your new bs.

As for which tile to use, it would be helpful to know your counter material before we offer more advice, but as someone else has mentioned above, you might be looking for a pale, pale green.

I had the exact same experience with my backsplash that we installed ourselves. The colors did not quite come out the way I had hoped and didn't match the countertop the way I thought it would. Our countertop had a lot of red undertones and was warm, and the beige tiles ended up feeling cooler when they were up. It matched parts of the countertop, but the full effect was not quite right.

Our backsplash was on two large walls and 580 tiles were installed very slowly over about 6 weeks. There was no way we were doing it over. So I decided to learn to love it. One thing that helped a lot was to put a few things on the counter that were a contrasting color. Honestly, I don't even see the issue anymore and I love my backsplash now and also the countertop. I think your kitchen looks great and I can maybe see what you are concerned about, but I think you should live with it for a bit before you start over.

Barb - this is a work in progress picture. We are repainting soon and will post pics once everything is done. The backsplash subway tile is from Floor and Decor - I think it is called Heirloom Linen but it's pretty white. It is 3x9 and if you get up close it looks like fresh sparkly snow. My counters are Hanstone quartz in the pattern Kindred. I believe the stain on my birch cabinets is called Sable.

I also think it looks lovely! I looked at a photo of your quartz on the Hanstone website and it is very neutral and not warm in tone, and your cool white glass tile compliments it. I think your wall color may be throwing you off. What color are you planning to paint your walls? I think a cool, pale neutral would look much better against the tile.

Brooke - what is the name of your quartz? It looks really similar to mine.

Looks great - the pendant lights seem a little small. Replacing with something larger and shiny white might tie it all in.

I think it looks beautiful & adds some light to your kitchen with the color choice. You did a great job on it, from what I can see. Give it some time. Maybe a month or 2 and then see how you feel. Change can be hard sometimes, but only because it feels out of our comfort zone at first. You may find you like the change once you get used to it. I think you made a nice backsplash tile choice!

it is actually laminate countertop by wilsonart. It is there premium version. The name is called Madura Pearl. I also paid a little extra to have the edges shaped differently than a regular counter so that it looked more like real quartz.

I like the idea of may be changing my three lights over my island. what kind of choice would be good for that to tie it in with the backsplash.?

That’s really helpful. In googling your material I came across something called Chip It by Sherwin Williams that apparently breaks the mix of colors into swatches that correspond to their paints. If you are looking for new tile, this could help you get the color right.

By far the easiest thing to do is change your mind. Just live with it a while and if the hate persists, hire someone else to do the demo.

I'm another person who thinks your kitchen looks wonderful. But if you're still not happy with it after a few weeks you could try staining the grout a slightly darker color which would make your tiles stand out more. I am pretty sure such a thing as grout stain exists.

I actually have learned to like my backsplash. It was just weird at first I guess. I did change out my lights though and I think it helps.
