I find that swallowtails are on their own timeline! I raise black swallowtails and some of them are just comfy in their chrysalis it seems :)

I've never kept a record of how long pipevine swallowtails took to emerge, but it seems like there are usually some scragglers, not as many as with black swallowtails, but a few. I hope I get some more eggs and cats next month - I'd like to overwinter some.

I had another Pipevine close today after 7.5 weeks. Here are photos of that butterfly and some of the remaining chrysalides.

You can see that the chrysalides very in color and slightly in size but I think they all look normal and viable. What do you think?

They all look healthy to me, Anna. Yes, pipevine swallowtail chrysalides are variable in color, but the butterfly always has the same coloring!
