High quality sleeper sofa

Hi all -

I am looking to purchase a high quality sleeper sofa in the next 3-6 months and I’m coming up short narrowing down what would even be a reputable, quality brand. I don’t have much faith in the “lifestyle” brands like CB2, Crate, Pottery Barn, etc.

Some background: I got a sofa from West Elm 2.5 years ago and it’s total trash - uncomfortable, fabric looks bad, cushions didn’t hold up beyond the 6 month mark. At the time, spending $1400 on a couch felt like a lot, but I know now that West Elm takes the stance that their couches have a 1-3 year lifespan.

I‘m looking for something that will hold up for ~10 years, with occasional use as a sleeper, and an up to $5,000 budget. I’m tired of sinking money into what feels like disposable furniture.

Any photos you have of a sofa you‘ve had and loved for 5+ years would be appreciated.

I’m not a pro , however, I’ve been happy with all of my upholstered furniture from Room and Board. Made in the US.

Wow that would cure me on West Elm for sure. I have actually had very good results with my CB2 purchses I have 2 chairs from them different from eachother that are used daily for the last 12 yrs and still look and act like new. I also have a guest bed that is not used as often but seems to be holding well.Your budget is good so you need to go shopping comfort is personal and unless this is only to be used as a spare bed you need to sit and lay down to make sure this is a good purchase. IMO the mattress is the big deal with most hidea beds many are just too thin to be comfortable even for one night. Also you need to mention your style for sure .

Wow -- was considering a West Elm Shelter sofa to replace a 13-year-old Crate and Barrel model (it's dead now, but it lasted 13 years of pretty heavy use so I'm OK with it) -- but if anything from West Elm is meant to only last 1-3...yikes!

Quite a few years ago we purchased a sleeper sofa from Ethan Allen that held up for many years. It had a traditional innerspring mattress but also had an air mattress built in to give it added support. It was very comfortable. I’m not sure if they still make them but it may be worth looking into.

Look at american leather brand sleepers they take up slightly less room because of their mechanism, and look more cofortable because there arent metal rods i ordered one, they are not cheap but they are quality.

I have an American Leather sleeper and the sleeper part is great. My problem with the sofa part is the cushions slide forward and have to totally be adjusted every time it's sat on if I don't want it to look a mess. It is upholstered in fabric, not leather. I keep it for the sleeper function but otherwise it was an expensive waste.

We just ordered an american sleeper sofa this spring and it is super comfortable. They have changed the cushions to fix the slide. On the bottom side there is a concave edge that fits along the front rail to keep the cushion from sliding forward. Downside is cushions are not really reversible.

I've had my Hancock and Moore leather sofa since 1993. Still going strong and the natural leather has developed a wonderful patina. Back then I paid $2300 and that was during a promotional special being run on select leathers.

We purchased a leather American Leather sleeper sofa a year ago. Comfortable sleeper with the foam and gel, but the most uncomfortable sofa to sit on. There is something wrong with the pitch of the back cushions. They are wedged to prevent them from falling forward which results in an awkward posture. I'm trying to come up with a remedy... most expensive furniture mistake.
