I'd add art on the wall to the left of the door, maybe two colorful pieces stacked. Or maybe some art on each of the walls facing each other. Perhaps change out the hooks (or paint them) to something colorful. A scarf hanging from the hook? A hat with more personality?

I wonder if you could make a cushion for the bench? Put a picture on the wall. Put down a small rug.

I like the rug and cushion suggestions, add a pillow and then paint the wall behind it a striking color that ties in the rug, pillow and cushion. While most of the wall will be covered that pop of color will make it all come together. The Art too!

I think you either need to paint the piece or the walls then add the cushion for the bench I honestly don’t see a place for art with all the doors .A rug is a good idea in that space too.

A bold color on the piece would look stunning! Dark blue or green if you tend more traditional, bright green, coral or red if you are more adventurous. Pair a pillow with a bold print and coordinating art above the bench.

What colors are you planning to use as your accent color in the adjacent area? Art, rugs, furniture? Then use that color in this area too.

I'd drape a string of those little lights somehow.

Ok so changing the wall paint isn’t going to work. It will be a pain, but painting it navy blue or charcoal gray would be your best bet.

Sell this one on craigslist or NextDoor, then buy a new bright white one. The cream color does not work with your cool gray walls.

Add fun color.
Find a runner you love, then paint the bench in a coordinating shade.

strong term, clash, which to me, it doesnt. you started with natural textures hat...cushion with cream, white, and what color you like sounds good.

Because I am lazy, I would see if I could find things with the cream and white or grey.

If you don’t want to do a color per se then why not take the dominant hue from your kitchen counter top, since it already blends with the walls. Just a simple reference to one of your major existing elements works every time.

Thanks people. This is all great. Clearly j am not great at interior designing. So all of this is great help. Just to keep it easy for now can I just paint it white ? Can you paint white on cream or it shows up ? Chalk paint ? TIA.
