I agree laying herringbone pattern is for a good pro. IMO a 3 x12 tile in a stacked pattern is a nice backsplash

Hi Jan, thank you so much for the recommendations, I already ordered the 2 x 8 before I saw your comment with the 3 x 12. Hoping it will still look nice. So my wife and I are in a disagreement over the grout color, she wants white same as tile because she thinks it would me more timeless I’m more on the side of gray or darker hue than white. I have a feeling we’re going with white ;)

Herringbone really needs NO contrast in grout, especially with a bright white field. The SLIGHTEST imperfection will glare back at you. If any pattern or veining in the counter top? you really really don't need contrast grout.

Thanks Jan. Yes we’re replacing it with white alabaster quartz and it has slight gray veining. Here are pictures of the current kitchen.
