Beautiful! I'm relatively new and a bit of a lurker myself and seeing your photos make me so happy I ordered Ascot, Pomponella and Nahema from Palatine last week. But now I have more to add to my wishlist!

you'll love all three of them. Mine were all from Palatine as well. Ascot smells like raspberries to me. Nahema is very pretty and fragrant.

Pomponella is really cool and loaded with flowers. This is ONE stem.

I remember you Tammy. I'm always thrilled to see gardens in colder zones. Yours gives me so much inspiration. I might even order Ascot now that I see it looking that beautiful in z5/6. It's wonderful in Diane's garden, but she's 2 zones warmer and I didn't think it would thrive here. How big is yours, and is it own root or grafted?

Cinderella Fairy Tale is a vision! Mine were awful this year. They seem to take every other year off.

Tell me about your Eden. Own root? More than one flush? How tall? Mine took forever to get started.

I absolutely love the blush on Mitsouko. HMF rates it to z7, so it's encouraging to see it growing so beautifully in your garden.

Mine is from Palatine so it's grafted.

By the time the first flush arrives, Ascot is about four feet tall? Right now it's a bit taller. With our winters, it's barely knee high after my spring pruning when I remove all the winter kill.

You can kind of see it in the background in this picture. The yellow roses to the right are Lichtkonigen Lucia for size comparison.

My Eden is own root. Last year I had a second flush. I'm not sure I'm going to get one this year, unless I missed it already. (I was away on holidays for all of August)

She's not very tall. Barely reaches the top of the trellises she's on by the end of the summer. I have her with clematis for more blooms because I find her stingy. She's probably not the best choice for Ontario...but she's sooooooooooooooooo beautiful when she does bloom.

For Mitsouko, I got her from Palatine and she's listed as 5B on their website. I'm just a little over an hour drive from them so figured she'd be safe in my garden. haha

I also remember you posting last year. I took notice because we are in close proximity regionally. I'm obviously a bit north of you, so I'm a zone 5, never zone 6 & sometimes more of a zone 4 in winter. It's nice to see what you are growing. I'm interested in Ascot, but was concerned about hardiness. It's good to hear yours is doing well. I will try anything once though, sometimes even twice. You have a lovely assortment of roses.

Your Cinderella looks great! Do you have issues with moisture and bloom damage? I've had many blooms look terrible when there is a lot of humidity or damp conditions.

I also grow Eden, your experience sounds similar to mine! It's okay in general, when it's great it's gorgeous. But I also have issues on this one with blooms balling badly in damp conditions too.

I had hoped that Palatine would offer Mitsouko again this year as they didn't have it last year

Thank you so much, Tammy, for the info. I'm encouraged about Ascot, and you reminded me that I've intended to plant clematis next to my Edens, but keep getting side tracked with other more pressing things like getting roses in the ground before it freezes. It took my Edens about 4 years, but this was a good year for them. One that was supposed to be Pretty in Pink Eden reverted to Eden, and surprisingly and amazingly bloomed all summer. It was rarely without blooms. I wish all of them were as bloomy as that one. Mine aren't very tall, either, except for that one that seems to be exceptional. You are so lucky to be so close to Palatine. An hour is nothing when roses are the destination.

Yes to your Cinderella questions. It does ball with rain. I'm not loving that rose as much as I hoped I would. I watched a video in the summer with Monty Don and he was showing how you can sort of save the buds when they do that. It helped with a few of them.

I haven't noticed my Eden balling very much though. *touch wood*

I LOVE La Rose de Molinard. Every year, I have a garden party and my guests gravitate toward that particular rose. I think the fragrance lures them over. People that aren't even into roses want to know all about it and insist they're going to go home and plant one too. haha

You can kind of see it here. It's all the darker pink on the left hand side.

You see it through the arch and it's quite tall and arching. Produces a LOT of roses for me.

the rose de molinard got me going. i love fragrance. wafting fragrance. does it bloom a lot? how old is the one in your picture? but for you i would not have known this rose. i will just go over now and order it for next year. Thanks so much Tammy!

Flowers, Silver Star Vinery has great clematis. I ordered more and they are coming in October here.

Thank you Tammy. I just watched that YT video a few minutes ago. Of course you can guess he says its very very resistant to rust BS. Then he says he smells notes of rose, pear, apple, mango and some exotic fruits. He also uses another adjective to describe the fragrance. Sounds like grume. Either I dont know that word or I cant hear it properly. But grume I know means log. Maybe a scent of wood? There are two bushes there he says, to make it more imposing. Should fertilize after every flush and the rose is going through its 4th flush in sept. Glossy leaves and old garden shape. And other everyday things about roses. Also can be grown as a small climber. What a beautiful setting dont you think? A beautiful big rose. So impressive!

I also meant to ask, is your ascot strongly fragrant too? Or mildly?

I recognize the color of the sun in our northern areas in your pictures. So different from the sunlight in the photos from the gardens in CA.

Thanks, Sheila. I have Silver Star Vinery saved. I've never had to order a clem because Northland has a huge selection. I am planning to buy some ground cover clems next year, so if they don't have those, I will order. I want Sapphire Indigo. Do you know of any others?

I think my favorite is Perle d'Azure. I also found Jackmanni Superba (?) reliable. This is a hot enough area here that I can't go to the wimpy side. Here is Princess Red I got from Silver Star. I might have to call for another, because it wasn't on her web list.

Sheila, I have Prince Charles which I think is similar to Perle d'Azure. I have Jackmanni Superba, and moving them. I've never moved a clem before, so hope I don't botch it. Princess Red is just the cutest thing. New to me. I have Princess Diana, and it's similar. I need one I can use as a ground cover. Needs to be shorter and a non-clinger. Sapphire Indigo is the only one I've ever heard said to be a ground cover. I could get as obsessed with clematis as I am with roses if I let myself.

Rooguchi clematis might be what you need, flowers. I have Prince Charles too, and he is great but Perle is even better as in more vigorous and more saturated color. I wish I had a good photo. I grew integrifolia in Alaska and Durandii and they were also good. Juuli is really pretty too. I most love the saturated color ones. I've grown quite a few that peter out here because of the heat. I bet they will love your area. Viola, Romantika, Gipsy Queen are really pretty. I've probably spelled them all wrong, but you know.

Sheila, the only thing I don't care for about Prince Charles is the petals curl under so he always looks thirsty. I don't think Perle d'Azure does that. I missed getting Rooguchi when it was available here. I don't have Juuli, but do have Julka. I like them all.

Rose de molinard sounds like a fragrance I would enjoy.

I think clematis Arabella is a ground cover. Sapphire Indigo is a great choice for ground cover.

Totoro, thanks for reminding me! I really need to get Arabella as well as Sapphire Indigo for ground covers and they blend so nicely.

The little heuchera didn't have a tag, but it's so adorable.
