What it the term used for that type of ceiling ? I am building and want to explain this to my builder

      This is a tray ceiling that we bordered with crown molding. Some tray ceilings are very fancy-- this is a more simple and subdued one.

      I love this ceiling too. How did you attach /do the crown molding? Is it one or two pieces? I am building a house and did this ceiling in my master. I love the simplicity of it.

      These are two moldings stacked together. The bottom of the top piece was brad nailed to the walls so the top of the molding actually sticks out from the ceiling (unattached).

      Thanks so much wbelmer. They put two standard moldings together to make a wider profile. I'm not sure what the profiles were that the carpenter used. We just kept playing with different moldings until we achieved the look we were after.
