Just trim above a leaf node, the size of the cutting depends on you. In no time it will sprout a new leaf. Pothos isnt picky but it would prefer being trimmed in springtime. I let my pothos trail, but they climb also in wood but beware termites and fungus that humid wood is prone to have, I wouldnt use popsicle sticks as they are too weak and thin.
