Really nice! I am currently in the Denver area and enjoying a lot of the plantings that are quite different from my usual NH plants. One grass that particularly stands out here that you also have is Bouteloua gracilis Blonde Ambition, aka Blonde Ambition blue grama grass. The asters are really gorgeous in your photos as well.

Looks great - love the rich colors of the asters! I really like your arrangement with the pumpkins, the foliage plants play off the orange pumpkins beautifully.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I am a little obsessed with ornamental grasses. I planted a bunch last year and a few more this year. One that I am really looking forward to is the Miscanthus Purpurascens Flame Grass. I just planted it in August so it's not doing much yet but I have high hopes for it!

NHBabs, I really do like the Blonde Ambition grass! So different from everything else. Sounds like a fun time of year to visit Denver. How is the weather there? Northern Utah got a big storm yesterday... rain in the valleys but there is some snow up on the top of the mountains.

Denver is in the seventies and eighties during the day and down into the fifties at nightwith often light breezes. It has been dry since I got here. The sunsets are gorgeous.

Like you Aster. Do you know the cultivar name?

Windberry, the purple one is "Purple Dome with " Vibrant Dome" back behind it. The close-up pic of the aster is "Alert".

Just lovely. Not really relevant to your stunning results, but were the asters and mums planted last year and bloomed again this year? Or new this year or combo of both.

My asters, except for Alma Potsche, never had a chance to bec0me perennials because the rabbits ate them completely or they became so ugly, ugly bare bottomed I yanked them out.

Thanks Marie! The asters and mums were all planted last year and came back much bigger this year. I am really enjoying the fall show this year! Here's an updated pic 5 days later. Almost full bloom now!

Thanks Kali! Your garden looks great too! I bet next year the plants will be a lot bigger. I planted the white mum last year from a gallon pot and the asters were in 4" pots and now this year they are all huge! I love your helenium/sneezeweed in the last pic. I planted a few of those last year but they are done blooming now. They started blooming for me at the beginning of August and lasted about a month. I wish they would bloom in September too because they have such great fall colors. Is the orange plant Crocosmia? It's very pretty too and the colors of your mums are great!

Really fabulous fall garden Linda! If you want a long blooming Helenium look for Helenium 'Moerheim Beauty'. I grow others that bloom late but 'MB' blooms from June until frost for me. It has never disappointed in the approx. 15 yrs. I have grown it. No staking or pinching required.

Linda, your first picture of the ornamental grass.......what type is that? Is it a perennial? And does it need all day sun or just partial? I love the look of it.

djacobz, the first pic is Pennisetum fountain grass "Hameln" which likes full sun. It's a perennial hardy to zone 5. I really like it, it puts up it's seed heads earlier than than a lot of grasses and seems to be a good grower. I just planted it last year and it has grown a lot!

Linda - I love the white mum! perhaps this is ignorant bu I had no idea they could come in that color. I'm going to have to look into that. Recently I have found myself wanting lots of small white flowers in the garden. I've decided that next spring we are going to plant some Irish moss (has gorgeous little white flowers on it) on the side yard in the shade. We have had decent luck with grass but some areas are a lost cause so I figured we can put the moss and some flag stone in the shadiest, wettest areas and let it blend with the edge of the grass wherever that happens naturally. I'm hoping by next year or the year after my gardens starts to look like yours! Hate waiting for those shrubs and evergreens to grow .

Kali, Irish moss is not really a moss at all (mosses don't flower). It is in the same plant family as pinks and carnations. And it is not a shade lover - it likes moist soils but needs sun to flower well. If too shady for a lawn to do well, then skip the Irish moss. It just won't thrive in shade.

Kali, thanks! Mums come in all colors except a true blue. They do best if planted early in the year instead of in the fall because they don't have enough time to get established in the fall. I like white flowers too because they really make the other colors pop!

.....so don't wait until fall and buy pots. Buy from a catalogue like Bluestone or the few other places that sell mums in the spring.

Emily, everything looks so beautiful! I love your asters and grasses and burning bush always looks great in the fall. I have 2 that are looking pretty right now. Things are about over with here too. My asters still look ok and the mums are on the downhill side now. BUT...the grasses look great and I love them! It's nice today, 64 degrees. I went out and dug the last of my dahlias and planted lily bulbs. The upcoming week looks bad with one night at 19 degrees so I am trying to get stuff cleaned up this weekend.
