Bluestone Patio Retaining Moisture/Efflorescence

Hi All.

In August, 2019 we had a thermal bluestone patio installed. The areas base is 6” of item 4 or road base which was put down and tamped in 2” layers. This was done in October of 2018 and showed no signs of puddling or moisture. We let the base sit so that it would setup before putting the stones down this summer.

The installers put down 1” of stone dust and pitched it away from the house. Recently, we’ve noticed some bad water spots on the stones and aren’t sure what to do about it. We’re looking for help/advice. The installers said they’re not sure why that happened. Other than battling with the installers is there anything we can do besides take apart the patio? Once it rains or I water it down, the spots go away for a day or 2 but then come back. We live in zone 5 in NY.

Thanks.
