All though the damage to EC's leaves is not a common occurrence, it is also not rare either. The distortion is caused by insects feeding on the leaves in the very early stages of leaf development. This problem can be avoided by spaying all new growth with horticultural oil, or even a soap solution early in their development. Normally occurs in the summer months.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it would benefit the tree to trim the damaged leaves or just leave them and start treating for the pests?

No The contorted leaves are fully functional

• As poncirusguy wrote above, do not trim off the leaves, they are still providing photosynthates for the tree. The pests are now long gone. New tender leaves are a real attraction for feeding insects. A citrus leaf has a life span of approximately 18 months, and then are discarded. With proper care your tree will be just fine.
