@darbuka thank you. I'm going again today and will look much more closely at the Bosch. I did look at the 800 and the Benchmark. I still prefer the layout in my newer Miele machines but I can't imagine the intake valve will be any different. It's not like we had one failure - we had four! The only "good" thing is that Miele currently is offering a free 10 year warranty which is the only way I'd buy another one.

I've had a Bosch 800 series for 5 years years now (purchased in 2014) with no issues and, like Darbuka, I'm amazed at how well it cleans!

The KA we had before it was lousy -- we had to wash EVERYTHING on "Heavy Duty" to have any chance that the dishes would be cleaned. Even then, we invariably had several items that were not clean. Silverware was only about 75% cleaned, unless it was pre-soaked for at least 10 or 15 minutes immediately b/f running the DW (i.e., it could not be loaded and then sit there for more than a few minutes).

No problems with my Miele but mines only 1 year old. I bought it on my sisters recommendation cause she had hers for over 6 years with no problems

KA is not the same as your old one. They are junk now. I had a top of the line KA in my condo. Never again

@cpartist I'm trying to understand why one person could have no issues for 6 years and I could have 4 separate valves fail. If one failed I can understand but 4 makes me wonder if there's something with my water chemistry that just doesn't work with the valves.

Miele currently has a free 10 year warranty which is the only way I'd even consider one now. I'm tempted by the Bosh but I'm so used to the Miele racks etc it would be a big adjustment.

@wdccruise thanks. I'm in Canada and it's a free 10 year they are offering. They do that once in a while and it's the only way to go. I got a free 10 year when I bought my washer and dryer from them as well. Luckily this is good timing or I'd go with the Bosch for sure. This at least gives me pause to try Miele again since any issues won't be my problem for 10 years (outside of the inconvenience).

I had KA for 30 years and loved them. Bought a Bosch 5 years ago and love it. My daughter has a Meile (not one of the more expensive models) and I don't think it is as versatile. I also think it is smaller.

Miele is smaller. I compared the Bosch Benchmark and Miele today and the racks are definitely smaller on Miele. The 10 year free warranty was hard to beat though plus a 25% government rebate. We went for the Miele Crystal. I sure hope the intake valve will not be an issue but at least it will be Miele’s problem for 10 years.

livebetter, the new Mieles no longer, at least my new Dimension doesn't have the solenoid box on the water intake line. Apparently, it is now within the dw.

We also had an Optima and the water intake line crapped out three times, then to the recycle outlet it went.

We're happy with the new Miele which was bought last December.

@Brent B it seems the Optima was known for this flaw. Just hope the internal one on the new machines is better. At least my free 10 year warranty makes me feel a bit better. They’re a lot of money to have those kinds of issues. They claim their appliances should last 20 years and my vacuums will but I’m not too sure about my washer and my DW sure didn’t. Glad you like your new Dimension. Our new Crystal will be here Thursday. I’ll have to get used to the new racks.

Miele customer service did confirm the water intake system has been updated. Here’s hoping it works better. We do have moderately hard water here but not very hard.
