Pictures please and what is 500sf ? Usually a simple 12 x24 porcelain tile that works with the wood is best.

Are you sure you want tile? If so, why? Why not just carry the hardwood into the kitchen and use a different stain there?

Hard wood is 15 years old and golden oak no way to match it. My question is could I use a wood look tile that’s in the grey family ? Or is that not good next to old hardwood

It’s your house, do whatever you want. A designer with color training would never have paired grey tile with yellow hardwood, but you did. You seem to like it, because you’re interested in changing the format of the tile, not the color. Go for it.

Here’s my concern. Tile in the kitchen is hard to stand on while you’re actually cooking, and wood look tile is more for a mud room that abuts hardwood - an attempt to blend in. It’s certainly not a statement tile for a foyer.

An alternative would be a calacatta gold flooring tile for the foyer that captures some of the gold tones in your hardwood, and actual hardwood everywhere else.

BTW, you’re being held hostage by floors that are so yellow, they are dating your home to the early 80s. You could just refinish your floors so they’re not so yellow!

Refinishing then is not a option right now. The Golden oak is about 15 yrs old. We had a leak in our kitchen and need to repair the entire kitchen which the floor runs through to the foyer. If I were to pick white cabinets what would be the best floor choice with keeping the golden oak flowers. The house was build in 1999 it’s not a 80’s home.

The reason people are being so challenging is that you haven’t posted photos, despite requests. So you are asking us to be clairvoyant to somehow picture your home and make suggestions with nothing to go on other than your terse description.
