I think the answer is more like "no, the trim has to match the valve." In this case, Delta. Not Moen, Kohler, etc. This would most likely include the handle. But as C stated, anything else can be whatever you choose, though you would most likely want to match finishes and such.

I stand by yes: "I was under the impression I'd be limited to Delta trim kits". Yes, you are limited to Delta trim kits.

Delta valve needs Delta trim. Which in practicality means all Delta unless you are doing chrome. Their gold, stainless, and nickel tend not to quite match others 100%.

Have your trim before you button up walls. Delta isn't bad but Moen is know for having their handles stick out very far were it looks like something is wrong when its their design.

I know it has plastic wall trim set but with some modern trim kits like Arra? it will look odd if it isn't set further into the wall. The more modern the trim the more its visible.

Good thing is those cartridges are cheap to rebuildable, bad part is they do leak at times.

Even if you are looking for trim kits from only a single manufacturer, they're not all interchangeable.

The Delta Trinsic, Delta Pivotal Monitor, and Delta Zura look pretty decent and not too expensive.

I have a GERBER single handle knob in my bathroom that I want to modernize... it does use a cartridge, but it seems most universal kits fits Delta, Phisher Or Moen... Can those universal trim kits that uses cartridges work for Gerber Faucets?

Wouldn't Brizo trims be compatible with Delta valves since they are Delta's higher end brand?

Yes, in fact Delta sells the identical valves under both its Delta and Brizo brands but charges substantially more for the Brizo versions.

I have a similar question but it relates to the diverter tub spout. I have a Brizo/Delta multi choice shower tub rough-in valve but having a lot of trouble with the Brizo diverter tub spout. Can I use a Kohler diverter tub spout with the same valve? The spout I have now is a pull up diverter and the Kohler is also a pull up diverter. Just that their diverter handle is at the front of the spout and the Brizo spout I have has the handle in the back. the only thing that connects the valve to the spout is the pipe so I think it would work? And the reason I want to do this is because the distance of the pipe from the valve to the pipe for the spout is 7" and Brizo requires 8" and was told the reason the spout is leaking in the back. Kohler calls for 7" min so thinking it would solve the problem if it will work with the Delta/Brizo rough-in valve.

Assuming the finishes match tub spouts aren’t brand specific. I don’t think it will solve your leak though.

Sure. The tub spout diverter just blocks the flow of water through the spout to force it up the pipe to the shower head. The valve doesn't "know" what the spout diverter is doing.

that is what I would think. but it seems all the companies say you have to use their valve with their tub spout. I wrote to Kohler to ask of I could use one of the diverter spouts with my existing Delta Multi choice valve, and they say, "We do not recommend using Kohler products with non-Kohler rough-in valves. This is because our products are specifically designed and tested to work seamlessly with Kohler rough-in components. Using a Kohler product with a non-Kohler rough-in may lead to compatibility issues, potential leaks, or suboptimal performance." I find that odd.

Basically they are saying use the different manufacturer products together at your own risk. No warranty of they fail. They want no responsibility for mixing, and I cannot say as I blame them.

Using a Kohler tub spout that contains a diverter is not using it with a "non-Kohler rough-in valve." The two components aren't connected in any way. Of course Kohler is going to tell you to use only its products.
