Impact window installation questions

I live in Jacksonville Beach & I am considering replacing my existing windows with PGT Winguard 5500 impact windows. What is the proper installation for impact windows on a house with hardieplank siding? I have heard conflicting opinions from the various window companies that I have interviewed. One told me that my trim would need to be removed and then replaced and another said that was not necessary.... I live near the beach, but impact windows are not code yet. Is it worth the expense?

It could Be done without a nail fin or the siding could be cut back and trim installed to cover the nail fin, You would want a drip cap at the head either way IMO. Pulling the siding is an option but labor intensive but the best way to endure the flashing is tied into the weather barrier.

You want to see a detail drawing from the window company and compare it to PGT's detail drawing.
