They are very thin, but for a high traffic area they can work. I have one behind my bar and have spilled many a drink on it and they wash up in the machine really nice!

I bought two recently. Haven't washed them yet so can't comment on that aspect. One is for the back entry that gets infrequent use. I considered one for the front entry but doubt it would be absorbent enough for our Montreal winters.

Have a runner by the front door .. cleans up nice and doesn’t budge.
Used to live in a climate where snow was an issue - I wouldn’t recommend these if you’re using the LL BEAN water hog ... this (ruggable) won’t stop puddles or absorb water like the LL BEAN one

Ok, we are in Massachusetts, so it sounds like these won’t work. I just wish there was something attractive that behaved like a water hog :(

So do I, Momofthree. We're using a black industrial type of rug from HomeDepot in our slate front entry. Not the most stylish of options but it does work.

We're in Vermont and trying to decide between both as well. A FB group (all the commenters have great taste) swear by the waterhog as being the only thing that will work in snowy/muddy climate with young kids that are outdoors all the time (we're in Vermont). So I've decided on the waterhog, but wondering if I can add a ruggable on top. Would love to see what you decided! I know this is an old post!

They are definitely thin and a bit overpriced for what they are IMO, but I do love that they can be thrown in the washer. They are perfect for kitchens and areas that get a lot of food spills, but I don't think they're super absorbent. They seem to repel water though, so might be worth a try. When we have small spills, I don't think the water seeps through the layers onto our hardwood floors. We've only had to wash our kitchen runner maybe 3 times in the last couple of years, as they spot clean extremely well. We only put them in the washer when we have major spills (things like large amounts of enchilada sauce) or pet messes. I don't regret getting ours as we have kids and pets, just think they're kind of pricey.
