Have these two hostas reverted?

I have been having difficulty growing Guardian Angel and War Paint in a pot. They really had declined so last year I found a place for them in garden soil. Well I was tickled pink to see them increase in size this year. Thankful for not having lost them.

But now I think they have fooled me. I think they may have both reverted---Guardian Angel to Blue Angel and War Paint to Niagara Falls! Darn!

Don't you think so too?

Had to add these next photos in a different post because Houzz wouldn't accept the new posting when I included them.

Where are the "pie-crusted edges?" Too young?

I'll just have to wait and see what shows up next season.

I am seeing proper coloration on some of the leaves of Guardian Angel. It does go greener as the season progresses. You might be pleasantly surprised next spring.

War Paint may have reverted but again the yellow centre does fade after a few weeks. I see some pie crust on some older leaves and it is not as evident on young foliage. So you are right I would say it is just too young.

Even if War Paint has reverted Niagara Falls is still wonderful.

isnt the leaf shape wrong for GA???

traits should be there from birth ... they dont mysteriously show up with age ...

look ike the wrong green for NF ... which would fill that spot itself.. plus some ...

If you enlarge the 1st pic I count at least 7 leaves on the outer edges that are the proper shape and coloration of GA.

i dont agree ... hers is lanceolate... mine was roundish.. blanked on the hort term ... cordate?

i do see the coloration ... but it reminds me of something else ... like marion bachman???? ... probably not ...

i wonder of those 3 or 4 variegated leaves .. are all from one crown???

agreed re: GA, perren.all. If those solid blue leaves are all coming from the same eye...pluck that eye out. I think WP is just doing what it does...it's viridescent.

    Nice specimens, Ken.

OK, so I looked to see if I had more information on these two hosta. Five years ago, they looked like this:

    Guardian Angel

    War Paint

So sad to see them decline so much. I think it was poor potting media and not repotting enough that did them in. So to try to keep them, I planted them into the ground.

So yesterday I went out to take more pictures. Here is Guardian Angel:

(Sorry, photos are being posted rotated. Don't know why.)

    War Paint, two eyes.

I guess there is a War Paint eye and the other eye. I don't recall there being coloration on one eye and not the other.

As for GA, same. I will check if I took earlier photos. (I haven't sorted all my photos yet from this season.)

Ken ==>> what is the blue hosta on the left corner next to your GA? Loooove the color!!

So I did find early season photos of GA and War Paint.

Here they are in May 2019. I think they looked pretty good---well promising, that is.

And in case you're wondering what the other little hosta is in the center, it's Rhino Hide. It didn't make it.
