Put all 3 next to each other

So Abby jean, should I switch out the art? I also felt the pillows sooo went with everything until the art came along. I had posted before pictures and many who commented said art that would make the room pop would add to it. after I hung the art I feel like it is fighting with everything! My favorite piece is the one over the love seat and maybe add something else over the larger sofa. I am obsessing over this now!!

I think you have to make a choice........the rug and the pillows and the black, which give such a rich rich look in your room and opt for new art behind the couch that goes more with your rug. I just do not see them working together. Which do YOU like more? I totally get the obsessing part and it is NO fun!

I like the artwork but there is too much that is too similar. I like touches of abstract art. Too much of anything (except chocolate and wine) becomes uninteresting, no matter how interesting each piece is on its own.

I love your choice of art but teh room is too predictable with the art matching the size of the sofa. Take all three canvases and put them over the longest sofa. The rug pattern is fine because the pattern is small so it is almost a solid. It just needs to be bigger and turned lengthwise with the long sofa. If you can not get a larger rug get a larger sisal rug and put it underneath your present rug turned sideways. Pillows can follow later but this is a great room. Do not be discouraged you are going down the right road. Art does not have to match teh rug or the pillows or anything else. Art stands on its own and is meant to compliment a room as well as bring out an emotion in the viewer.

Two suggestions: put the three pieces of art over the sofa...one exactly in the middle of the sofa and the others a few inches apart so that the end of the frame comes over to your lamp shade; and turn the rug in the other direction.

It just does not look like those pictures will all fit on that wall???? So they would totally go beyond the couch? PART of that bothers me more than the fight with the rug.

By placing all three paintings on one wall and letting them over hang the sofa so that the lamps end up being part of the arrangment rather than something at the side of the arrangement. It gives the layered look!

Yes, it's too much, but part of what makes it too much is all the knick-knacky stuff around it. Take away the plant and the floor pillows and the flowers, get bigger pillows, and you have a shot at making it work.

I like everything but the rug. It's blah. I'd pick a solid color from the paintings to ground things Right now there's no where for your eyes to land and relax.

Posted were a suggestion of color, but You should still use the ones you already have, just add another. I like someone's earlier suggestion to add a plant to the corner between the love seat & sofa.

Tie it all together with an orange or red rug.

Try them together with your favorite in the middle. Don't worry that they will be wider than the sofa. They will look great once you add some more pops of color.

Try all the paintings above the couch. Change wall colour to Elephant's Breath (Farrow and Ball) and pick out an accent colour from paintings for a few scatter cushions!

Great art! Lots of Houzzers with vaulted ceilings would love to get their hands on something with that much color and scale.However, your little space is overwhelmed by them. If I were there playing with your room, I'd move the love and starting about 10" from the floor I'd stack the two from over the sofa vertically there. Then I'd put the vertical one over the sofa. However, not knowing what is on the opposite wall from the larger sofa, I can't quite advise where to go with the furniture. Do you want to post more pix? Comment and use the AI button to do so.

The scale of the paintings "shrink" the tables and other accents. As it is, everything oversized, super colorful, and very square is on the walls. I would replace the small pieces of furniture with fewer, bolder, squarer items. Then bring bright color down so that it is not all on the walls. Could be with large pillows, colorful rug...I would reduce paintings to two or combine the three on the wall over sofa.

I love the art- what I don't think works here is the paint color on the walls. It needs to be a lighter cooler tone. I personally feel like the wall color is too similar to the color of your couches. I also agree with groveraxle about removing some of the knick knack items.

I agree with Annieswl, scale is the most important element. When you bring three large bold pieces, they change everything in the room.

Two large standing lamps, and a larger coffee table, and somewhat larger pillows on the furniture.

Group any small items together in one spot, like photographs on the counter in the foreground. Nothing on the end or coffee table that isn't one TALL simple prominent piece.

Right now, I think the art kind of overpowers the furniture, and the wall color. And the wall color washes out the furniture.

I agree with one of the commentors, what looked best was a darker grey. It kind of elevated the furniture, and made it look more substantial, and it was strong enough, but still neutral enouugh to showcase the art.

I wasn't sure about a bright rug, if it would make the sofa disappear between that and the art, but with a grey wall, which is what the room needs, you have to change the rug. Just make sure you get great big bold pillows to coordinate, and I think the room will be fabulous! Good for you for your bold choice!

PS Ive had to try more than one color on walls almost every time I paint!

If you pick a new color for the walls, I would suggest that you pick one that is clear, not toned. The art work is the only thing in the room that has clear (or tinted) colors, which also sets it apart. And then, make sure that the brighter color pillows are also clear (no brown or grey in color.) I do like the energy of the room, and think that you will eventually find your balance and love it.

Thank you everyone for all your wonderful comments and suggestions. After having the art in the space for a few days I have had a change of heart and may return it. It is too bold and ever present for me. I am not able to paint again at the moment or make any other furniture purchases or buy a new rug. I feel like the art is competing with everything in the room. I love abstract but this is too way over the top for me and it makes me feel uncomfortable in this space. I probably will be happier with something more subtle. Any suggestions would help. Thanks everyone!

Something must have drawn you to them in the first place... Can you try living for a day or two with your favourite one over the love seat? I wonder if it's just because there's so many at the moment? I love them all but I think it's worth seeing how you feel about just one on the wall. It's too matchy matchy and overpowering at the moment.

I would choose a soils colored rug and take away one of the paintings and then I think it would be perfect !

I think it's the paint color that's throwing things off. I'd like light gray walls with the orange rug.

I think it looks good . The only thing is maybe get rid of some of the little items all around the tables it's distracting . Simplicity is the highest state if sophistication . Other than that great job looks awesome !

I vote for getting rid of the one over the love seat, I think it should be more wider than tall and keep the 2 over the sofa. I have found that when I buy things that I like, they usually go with other things I have purchased because I have like them. I agree with above, get rid of little things in the room. Less is more..............

I've felt at times, people are sometimes not prepared for the amount of help that they'll receive on this website.
There are So many talented, experienced commentors that often offer very different opinions, and ideas, which is what is so great!

But I can certainly understand how it could end up being overwhelming. I suggest you not listen to any more suggestions for a while. You weren't too sure about the purchase. Give it a chance, and if you still don't like it then maybe you can take a photo of your room to the store, and get some advice on alternatives.

And you don't have to listen to THIS suggestion, either! (Was that another suggestion?)

Found some artwork that I thought might work in this small space. Anything else I can do to add/ detract from it. How about coffee table? What can I place on it? Any suggestions so appreciated. Thank you.

Your eye for design is amazing and I was sooooo excited to see this room here again. WOW! Maybe a few more pillows for the couch? In that dash of orange in the pic? Are you thinking of adding panels to the windows? No pics to share, but that would be a dramatic touch, too! Enjoy this room!!!

Thank you so much abbyjean. Yes that is a dash of orange in the pic & I am almost tempted to change yellow pillows to orange. And also add panels but something very light and airy.

I was about to say....keep the two over the couch and find something coordinating (in a broad sense) for the other wall.

Then I realized 18 people already said that.

And now I'm saying it! The art from 8 weeks ago was very nice....today's is also fine....but the look of having very, very similar art on two adjoining walls is jarring to my eye. Art is not like curtains. If you have 2 similar windows on two adjoining wall, then yes, you use the same curtains and fabric on both. But not for art! Art should be unique. After seeing the paintings on one wall, the eye wants something different (though still akin) on the next.

I like the new artwork. I agree that one of the paintings would be better replaced with something complementary. And an orange pillow would add just the right amount of pop.

your problem is everything is the same color, what you need to do is paint your walls a different color like white, or gold . Gold color will be perfect.

It's hard to pick up but the walls are "desert tan" , a very warm gold. I really like a more monochromatic look. Any suggestions for what kind of panels I could use on the windows. I want something very light and airy looking.

Personally, I want to put a piece of sitting furniture in front of the window, to read.. or a tall plant.. not the table with knick knaks.. I've been trying to get away from anything heavy on the windows..so I use gauzy curtains that flow with the breeze. Colored one's would be great in that room. I like the Pop of the orange in the rug, it brings the room into focus. And orange pillows instead of yellow one's, along with the blue, like in the pic groveraxle sent.. choose colors from your paintings

Would there be such a thing like a silvery sheer? A metallic silky fabric? Play up the base of the two lamps maybe?

You could actually get that at a fabric shop! The Silvery Sheer or shop the second hand stores I see it from time to time there

Love the artwork; like the room color. Need a big "statement" lamp in the corner to balance the art, and pillows on the couches that pick up colors in the art. They should be big and plush, too. Easy fix. The rug???

I think artwork should make you happy, if it does than it works. I may do all three on the longer wall and change a few of the duller colored pillows to brighter colors!

I love it. I would go with the Kilim Beige as someone suggested on the walls. If anything, I would change the single art with something still contemporary but more "solid" in color. It really looks great...good for you!!!
