Maybe get a good photo of your clematis in- hand on on your phone or tablet then open up a rose catalog on a different device and just look at colors..

You could also compare your clematis to an artist color wheel. Once you know what colors you like then you can search for specific climbing roses that do well in your area.

Alternately, you could do a collage in a photo program on you computer etc.

That said, possibly soft apricot or lavender might look nice.

Rather than trying to pair it successfully with flowers, I'd look to foliage instead. Why not allow it to ramble through a purple leaved smokebush? Or a chokecherry or ninebark?

Have you looked at it next to a white\ almost white rose instead of pinks? I’ll confess I am not a color perfectionist and just like to mix a bunch of flowers and colors except for the true orange reds. I have nelly moser which also has a darker bar with white iceberg rose and I like it. The idea of nice foliage instead of roses also sounds great.

Sultry, thanks for the suggestions! I routinely make collages before planting. It’s almost as much fun to come up with the pretty combos as to actually have the garden. :) I was just having a hard time getting Bees Jubilee to look good in one. Daniela suggested white, which ironically I hadn’t tried yet, and it’s lovely! Also gardengal’s suggestion of striking foliage is a great one.

Gardengal, I love the foliage suggestion. I think after playing with it, I prefer chartreuse rather than red/purple tones, but it is a great idea!

Daniela, I also have Iceberg, and after your suggestion I tried the two together and it’s beautiful! Thanks! Not sure how I missed such a basic idea. Lol.

flowers, I love that Niobe (or such) pic! It really is beautiful. I am short on clematis of such color atm, but have some coming! The lavender pic is loveky, also, and I thought that blue/purple went with everything, but for whatever reason the particular shades of Ramona and BJ together did not appeal to me whatsoever. Maybe I should play with some different shades of blue.

Dillybeansown, your own eye is your best guide. My clems rarely look exactly like the pics online or on the tags, so I have some odd combinations. I planted Ilka, expecting it to be lavender, with Westerland, a soft orange rose. But, Ilka turned out to be more pink in my garden. An unfortunate combination that I have not changed because I really don't like moving clems. I think Dianela's suggestion of white is a great idea, too.
