Perennials Texas Garden Exchange Garden

Help my Dianthus are dying

I have had this Dianthus planted since last fall and a few months ago a section just turned brown and died. Now another section has died. I live in Houston, TX. I thought about the drainage issue, root rot, but it is not an area that is watered daily or regularly really.

i never found them to be a long lived plant ... in my MI anyway ... i dont know how that translates to TX

I think they are biennial plants, meaning they die in second years, like Hollyhocks plant!

There are many Dianthus species and most are perennial. Hollyhocks can be perennial too.

Not that it much matters since the OP disappeared 5 years ago and didn't seem interested in getting an answer.
