Pre-snowstorm rose displays

last modified: 6 years ago

Tomorrow everything will be frozen so I cut as much as I could today. Unfortunately there is no natural light due to the storm. The colors don't show up as well in artificial light. It sure does smell nice.

Far right vase. Pink Aster (upper right), Parade Day (center pink), Golden Wings (partially folded cream and small yellow bud), Sally Holmes (white), Playboy (lower right), Robusta (lower left) with a small Orange Mango Popsicle Red Hot Poker poking out of the left. It looked nicer before Golden Wings started to fold up. :-)

I kept trying to get the colors right.

    Left part of display.

    Center of display.

    Right side of display.

Oops, forgot the center bowl. Parade Day (pink and light pink striped), Playboy (yellow to orange), and Iceberg (white).

Bye, bye 2019 roses. You all looked great together. :-)

Wow pretty. Lots of beautiful blooms. I can’t believe it is going to freeze already =(. Hope your winter is short this year so you can get lots of beautiful blooms soon.

Gorgeous! Your house must smell amazing.

I, also, can't believe some folks are already getting snow! We finally got an evening that actually feels like fall today lol. I am always so happy if I can actually dig out my boots and sweaters :)

They guy on the news said it has only been 5 months since our last snow storm. The summer felt really short. Usually Oct. 1st I want to put out my Halloween stuff. This year I wasn't feeling it.

Gorgeous Sam! What is the orange one in your last photo, lower right in the picture? Has sort of a yellowy center.

Also what is the red one center of your second picture?

Also what is the orange one on the left side of your first picture?

I love seeing your roses all lined up mmmm, and your bouquets too, Sam! I enjoy seeing all those colors and shapes together and I’m sure the fragrances are quite enjoyable!

The first one has adobe sunrise (left) sparkle and shine (yellow), and there’s also a random grocery store mini orange (that is not really mini). The red in The second pic is red knockout. i know most people here hate Those, but they are the reason I got into roses in the first place, so it has a small place in my garden. The yellow and red rose is ketchup and mustard. It is it’s first year and has bloomed nonstop. The one on the lower right in that same photo is my random grocery store mini. It has been a great rise so far (actually three once I separated the cuttings). Stay warm!

It is always hard to cut everything but now I'm wishing I had cut some more of the Amiga Mia buds as roses I did cut with tiny tight buds are opening. Or course nothing can be gotten now. Should have snagged some more asters and Orange Mango Popsicle Red Hot Pokers.

    Woke up to this.

Gorgeous bouquets! You have a veritable feast of roses there, mmmm12!

Sam, your bouquets are also lovely!

That is the first snow I've seen this year. Right now, I'm wishing the frequent rains would slow down here. My gardens are mud!

According to the news, only 5 months since our last snow storm. Was taking more pictures when the sun came out to try and capture the colors. Got some great ones with doggies.

Golden wings opened up today. One was just a bud. Made me wish I had cut more buds.

Gorgeous, mmmm! I'll be cutting my Trails End bouquet soon too. I always cut everything that is showing any color at all just in case it will open inside. I know the ones with no color won't open but I've had some with just one sepal down that did!

These are all sooo pretty! I bet you have the best smelling houses, too! My car told me it was 94 degrees on my way home from school today, so snow sounds lovely to me. :-)

Thanks Sharon! I am very pleased with how all the colors I've put in seem to go together. When I pick a new rose I generally wander around High Country Roses comparing the color with other roses I have. If it clashes I put it back. Matt thinks I spend more time than others selecting my roses and sort of ribs me about it.

I also find having the singles and the mini's make a nice contrast to the many petaled roses. I've got some that weren't in bloom right now so looking forward to a spring flush when I can see all the roses together.

I decided to start growing roses as I couldn't find any other spring to fall color flowers and am pleased with how it is working out.

Beautiful flowers and lovely arrangements, mmmm! Glad you rescued them before the storm. And tonight you can hardly tell there was any snow yesterday! Crazy Colorado weather!!

Mstywoods, I can hardly believe it but it looks like were going to miss the fall color due to this snow storm. My trees that are normally turning a beautiful bright yellow are going for an orangish brown. Bummer!
