Menu for Wedding Anniversary Celebration

My husband and I are celebrating our 50th with an "Open House" from 1 to 4 next weekend. I have chosen the following for the menu. Comments?

chicken salad with mini croissants

thin sliced roast beef with lime jalapeño mayonnaise and small rolls

marinated vegetable tray (carrots, mushrooms, baby corn, artichoke hearts)

frosted heart shaped cookies with gold sprinkles

rosemary pecans

homemade mints

A "wedding" cake

Champagne punch

Non-Alcoholic punch

(And I think DH will get some tubs of beer and perhaps set up a small bar)

No vegetarians in your crowd? Something with protein but not meat would be a good addition. Cheese plate/spread, hummus or other bean dip/spread?

Otherwise, it looks yummy to me! Happy Anniversary!

    Congrats!!!

Like Oly, the only thing I might suggest to augment what sounds yummy.... is a non meat option. Perhaps an egg salad or a cheese option

Agreed with Olychick.. a veggie option would be nice to add. Maybe a tomato brushetta to round out the sandwiches? With or without cheese depending on how veggie you want to get.

    Deviled eggs are always fun.

And depending on how many folks might be attending the open house. Adding in some fresh fruit- maybe in the form of cocktail picks for ease- would be nice to balance out marinated veggies.

Otherwise, the sweets and drinks sound wonderful as is!

And congrats on 50 years!! Delightful :)

Maybe the cheese in small blocks beside the veggie Dish, to offer a choice.

(Reason for the "D" is that the original said "fish" and I felt conscience-stricken when tempted to leave it, with explanation only accompanying).

Congratulations on your 50th ... hope you have a fabulous day and gathering.

    ole joyful

IT sounds great and I do agree with the others about a vegetarian option. Maybe a variety of cheese slices that could be put into the croissants or small buns and perhaps sliced tomatoes with it as well.

Congratulations on your anniversary. Have fun on your special day.

Congratulations on the 50th!!! It sounds like fun!

chase -- and our grands will help make those -- 4 and 6 so sprinkles may not be perfect! BIG GRIN!

    Congratulations!!!

Agree on a veggie choice with rolls/croissants, if needed. If not, it sounds great. Yes, CONGRATS indeed!

    Congratulations!!

The only thing I'd add is a "fresh" element. Some raw or lightly grilled veg, fresh fruit. Decorate the table with small apples that the guests can eat...

Although I don't think it'd be required, and you know your friends/relatives, but a macaroni salad should augment and take care of concerns and for something light to go with the heavy, some fresh fruit (strawberries, melon, etc). Congrats and enjoy.

As I understand....1 to 4 is not a meal.....unless you know you have some veggie people, I wouldn't worry about it. But to cover all bases, I have learned to have a bean salad.....I find I have more vegan friends than vegitarian, and cheese and eggs won't do for them.

A Marinated bean salad will do nicely but it's not "finger friendly" like the rest of your menu....perhaps you could make some toasted rounds with hummus and a slice of...olive or tomato or something.

But I think it's lovely and if you don't have vegan issues....go with it as written!

I might add a cheese tray - people always like a variety of cheeses and it's easy.

Unless you know that thin sliced roast beef is REALLY tender, I'd do beef tenderloin instead.

It sounds like it will be a lovely party! Congratulations to you both!

I do thank you all for your suggestions and as far as vegetarian options go, we have no vegetarian friends -- we live in the midwest -- Kansas -- so we are definitely carnivores! LOL! There are, however, a lot of people on lo-carb and by not using the bread and having the vegetables, they will have a choice of something to eat. And it's adults (except for our grands) so I don't have to worry about it being kid friendly either.

My daughter and I will be doing the food and the grands will help with the cookies. I've already got the nuts in the freezer and I'm hoping to make the mints this week and freeze those as well.

The cake is being bought from a baker in town. DH is doing the liquor.

You always make such lovely food and set such a beautiful table, it will be fun to see what you do. I forget about regional differences sometimes, thus the worry about vegetarians. I swear it's half the population around here - vegetarian, pescatarian or vegan. Add to that the GF, non-dairy, low-carb, no nightshade, low salt, no garlic folks and planning a menu is a big challenge. I envy the ease of choices you have!

And that's why they will be really extra special! ! !

Happy Anniversary, and Congratulations! ! !

Sounds nice to me too. As for those cookies, if they are made by the Grandkids they will, for certain, be perfect.

    Happy Anniversary.

If you all could come, I would love to have you! I'm in SE Kansas!

With the low carb crowd, the deviled eggs suggested earlier would be a big hit.

Olychick -- I don't envy you trying to select a menu with all of the "non-something" people where you live. At least here in the midwest, all of those "nos" haven't caught up with us yet! It's low carb/gluten free people only here. My menu does reflect that!

rhizo - I thought about deviled eggs -- they do go very well here but . . . there will be 100 or so and I just didn't want to devil that many eggs!

Congratulations! I think it sounds good too but do think you could add something with cheese. maybe cheese wafers for the crunch or a cheese dip of some kind with crackers. Fruit would be nice too.

I think your menu is perfect - actually I think that all of your meal planning is perfect as well as all of your beautiful tables. I look forward to the pictures (I hope you have time to snap a few) and I wish you both a very Happy Anniversary.

    Happy 50th! That's wonderful--and quite an accomplishment!

Your menu sounds perfect for an afternoon open house. I would perhaps just add a big salad--like those jumbo mixes you can get at Costco. It would be easy to mix at the last minute for a big crowd.

How lovely! Those cookies sound perfect and beautiful for a 50th celebration. Happy Anniversary! Do take photos of your spread.

how many courses are having in the meal.

Congrats to you and your husband. Sounds wonderful to me. I think often we all over make food and I just hate to see food going to waste. I do like the idea of deviled eggs....I love them and make them for almost all parties and change up the fillings. If you have not tried the pressure cooker method for eggs; it is pretty amazing. I have done pickled beet eggs made into deviled eggs with smoked salmon and capers in the filling...kinda grown up. I would enjoy what you have planned and think it was a lovely spread.

war garden -- it's buffet and come and go (we hope) but so often people come and stay! LOL!

Anne -- I don't have a pressure cooker firstly. I will admit that deviled eggs score big here but my main concern was not cooking the eggs but peeling that many eggs. It's a time consuming menu item!

Hope you have a great Anniversary Party...and most of all...that it pleases

you and your DH!!!!!! ( I agree with Marilyn_Sue) ;) Have a great day!

    Happy Anniversary!

(A hundred people! I don't even know a hundred people.)

Uptown Gal -- there are NO vegetarians! That I DO know! Unless someone has "crossed over" that I don't know about -- LOL!

Happy Anniversary Martha! I also think your menu sounds wonderful : ) I love the marinated vegetable tray idea - it all does sound good for the occasion and that many people. And I think at this point you are pretty much 'required' to take pics of those cookies if you've time! Ha ha! But my, 100 people!

Congratulations! Looking forward to the pictures.

I think your menu sounds perfect! If YOU want to add deviled eggs, our GFS store offers eggs already hardboiled and peeled. Not sure if you have something similar in Kansas.

idstarr -- not that I'm aware of -- well, on second thought I think our convenience stores have packages of 2 eggs but I bet they're spendy if you're thinking of getting enough for 100!

I've made deviled eggs dip recently for two events. So much easier than stuffing the eggs.

BTW have a great one, this weekend!
