Is it brass framed if so is that a big deal breaker ?

It's wood with gilt. Cut it down if necessary, but 50" seems way too low if your nightstands are at the height of your mattress which might be around 30". Why so low?

It’s to fit in between my built ins. I think the 70” is just too tall but don’t want to cut off 15-20” and then the bedframe not attach properly

My husband is nixing the 70”. It will basically cover the entire painted area. That’s why I was looking for something shorter.

Though maybe I need to tape the measurements on the wall first.... I know it takes up a lot of space

Getting rid of some or all of the length between the bottom horizontal board and the floor would help shorten it and if your husband is handy it shouldn't be hard to make new holes for attaching to the bed frame. It might not be as short as you originally thought but I agree with Olychick that you don't want it too short. Maybe it might be worth measuring and marking with painter's tape where things would end up in comparison to the built-ins first?

IMO those shelves are just collecting junk and you need night tables I would get rid of the shelves use the 2 cabinets for night tables and get the tall headboard BTW husbands are not great at design usually at 70” you will still have 26” above the headboard

The bed is flanked by custom built ins (same across from the bed). The lower cabinets are used for clothing. I agree that there is some dust collecting happening, but we do love the look and are not looking to replace it right now.

I will tape off the 70" x 60" (I think) and see how it looks. The current bed is a full size so the Queen + Queen headboard WILL take up most of that wall space.

If you're set on keeping those built-ins, then the glam headboard is just not right for the room IMO. Toooooo girly. Are you getting a wider bed? That one looks like a queen.

You have a frame, you only need a headboard. Use these upholstered panels that get applied to the wall.

Thanks, I look into that. We have a full bed now. Buying a Queen mattress and was thinking of just getting a bed frame and separate headboard. I will look into the panels.

I say if you have room for a King mattress go for it, but purchase two twin mattresses instead and place them on the bed frame.

These frames with storage below are quite handy.

That way you each get to have the mattress you want and it's not so difficult to change the linens.

I think they need to be extra long twins to do that.

I thought about a storage bed (but QUeen size). Most extend close to 90" which leaves about 27" to the built in across from the bed. A regular bedframe leaves closer to 30-34" and then I can use a bedskirt to hide stuff underneath. I do like the storage bed idea though (West Elm and Crate and Barrel both have them). Is 27" too tight between end of bed and built in? Hard for me to tell!

And I do need storage underneath so either a storage bed or a frame tall enough to keep some boxes underneath.
