In small spaces, as you probably know, multi-use furniture is a must. So, you have a good piece to start with. It is pretty low as Armoires go, so I would place it on a side wall if possible. More photos of the space would be helpful. I think a configuration that provided bookcase space at desk top height, along with surfaces for laydown of other items and hide away space for some files, etc. would be good. Then some big art would help create more of a Home/office space but more emphasis on "home".

Thanks Flo...see you're a night owl also! The room is 12'x12'. The desk wall is 8'H x 10.75 wide. North. Ceiling is lath and beams painted same color as wall. Will add photos of the other three walls. Couch facing east with windows, west facing T.V. closet and entry to room, south two windows and door to deck. Sooo, the only wall for the desk is the north wall. I like Doherty Penthouse renovation photo...bookcases to ceiling painted same color as wall. these are pretty narrow so what dimensions would we want to use. Carn have bookcases made with cupboard at bottom. Can paint or stain. maybe put speakers on bottom shelf.

Also like the "home office". we can have bookcase made as cupboard wall to wall with glass doors. Like because it can be dusty. The shelf at the ceiling, impractical ...books get dusty and not very accessible.

In this space, built-ins would be great. I too like the tower bookshelf (Doughtery) painted the color of the walls. It visually pushes back the wall and that is desirable here. Your armoire will be focal point. If you want armoire to blend in then you have to match color of stain in armoire. I think you need some light control on the windows especially with all the windows. Enough to at least diffuse bright light.

thank you, Flo. Today we installed the roman shades in beige does diffuse the light but also allows light in. I liked the texture and tone. Will take photo and send to you tomorrow. Are you suggesting we build to the ceiling? Think that's the decision if we go with painted bookcase. Also there is the possibility of stain the book case but keep the back open to the wall color. Wish I could see how it would look!

Great. Can’t wait to see. Love the idea of shelves to ceiling with back open to colorful wall. Size depends on exact measurements. How wide is armoire again?

Armoire is 48"W x 24"D x 52" H. Ceiling 8.5'. 10,5' of usable space. 6.5' for bookcases. 36" each. Did I tell you the ceiling is wood with beams painted the same as the walls. The rug only animated in the room. guess can look at pillows for pop of color. Was thinking about a colored/painted cabinet for T.V. cable box etc. Will send you more photos this afternoon. Don't know how all the way to the unattractive ceiling will work.
