Thank you for your question, Doug. The cabinets and shelving were modified from existing built-ins in the apartment.

Desks Against a WallYour other option for a freestanding deck is to place it against the wall. If you place desks on opposite walls, keeping 54 to 66 in. (137 to 168 cm) between them works best. With this amount of space, you can get up from the chair and walk around it without being hampered by the other desk and chair.Shop for desks on Houzz

Layers of color and texture draw you into this elegant yet cozy Southern California home office, den and guest bedroom. The walls, woodwork and ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore’s Mysterious Blue are complemented by furnishings and textiles in lighter blues, purples and browns. The custom desk tilts up to convert into an illustration and drafting table. A sofa bed, club chair and tufted ottoman create comfortable spots for work or relaxation.Takeaway: Painting wall and ceiling surfaces in a dark color can counter glare in a sunlit room and create an intimate, cocoonlike feeling. 8. Don’t be afraid to paint. You may hate a dramatically dark paint job. Or you may love it but worry what the next owner would think. Ultimately, the risk in choosing an unusual paint color is overrated. While painting a whole room (with several coats) may seem like a big hassle to undo a dramatic paint hue, it’s a fairly small part of the budget for an entire renovation. When you eventually resell, you should assume that you’ll repaint at the time to update to a fresh coat in a trendy shade. In the meantime, painting the walls in hues you love will give a lot of life to the space at a relatively lower price than many other potential upgrades.

Painting everything in this room blue — walls, built-ins, molding, ceiling — made it feel “completely different from all the other rooms,” Tennant says. “It’s this little jewel at the end of a long room, and it just pulls you toward it when the doors are open.” Even the drapes are a similar shade of blue to the paint. Tennant added crown molding and a high window above the desk to bring light into the foyer on the other side of the wall. The pyramids art above the sofa is a piece of concept art for the movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman.Paint: Mysterious, Benjamin Moore

This is lovely - the furniture is chic and cozy. Places to read, work, think. If we could do something like this, it would be a great win!
