Kitchen progress!

I’ve been having trouble posting from my phone. Maybe if I try one pic at a time? I’m really happy with everything so far, just wish it was done! Contractor says it will be done by the end of the month.

Thank you all. Surgery is today and houzz is helping to distract me. Still can’t believe this happened, what a way to begin her college gymnastics career...she worked so hard to get here. But she’s amazingly strong both physically and mentally and her teammates, friends, and coaches/trainers have been incredibly supportive. She’s in good hands. DH and I rented an air b&b near the college so she could have surgery with the ortho dr recommended by the coaches and stay with us for a week (if she needs to — at least thru the weekend). It’s been a crazy few days.

I feel so sorry for your daughter! I hope the surgery goes well and she is on a path to healing soon. It Is so great that you can be there for her and offer her the comforts of the rental (especially if she lives in a dorm). Thinking of you and your daughter and wishing you all the best!

Bless her heart! I had an achilles issue a couple years ago. Dr. wanted to "clip it" (surgery) but I opted for PT (months of PT). Worked, but very painful situation. I hope your daughter has a quick and easy recovery.

Sue, so sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury. DS broke his wrist skateboarding last year while away at school and needed surgery, so I can empathize. It was very stressful for me. I was not able to go, only DH could. I am happy both you and dh can be there for her.

Thanks everyone. She is (and always has been) a trouper! I think I was more traumatized by the surgery than she was. Anyway, she is back at school as of this morning (earlier than I wanted, but she’s stubborn and wanted to get back) with her shiny new scooter (and crutches). We‘ll have her home for Thanksgiving and she will have her stitches out, and cast put on, the day before. Then 2 weeks later, a boot — for 4 weeks. She’ll be able to walk in regular shoes then (at the 8 week mark) but then the PT begins and she can’t do any jumping movements for at least 4 more months. It will be close to a year before she’s really doing gymnastics again.

Her coach has made her “team manager” so she will stay involved with her team. Today she received a giant card signed by all her teammates, all of whom said “we love you” which is amazing after only being part of the team for 2 months. I know she’s got tough days ahead but she‘s lucky to have a supportive team beside her.

Here she is test driving her new wheels.

Meanwhile, the electrician is still at my house at 7:30 on a Sat night, and it looks like the kitchen will be really and truly done by the end of the day Mon. Woohoo!

Oh boy-- glad she is recovering well but so sorry she has to deal with the injury/surgery/recovery. Sounds like she has great support all around her!

Ah, youth! Already back at school! While those are probably not the wheels she’s been dreaming of, she will be happy to have them.

I am happy your kitchen will be wrapped up soon. It is truly lovely, warm and welcoming.

Yesterday, they put in the appliances. The fridge is no longer in the dining room, hurray! The best part of yesterday was finally being able to hang a painting we bought in Santa Fe (in place of the fridge). And yes, that’s a toaster oven on the dining table...still a work in progress!

Some misc stuff for contractor and electrician to do today, but I think we’ll be truly done by the end of the day!

Not convinced this little bookcase belongs here, but we have it, so here it is at least for now.

A cushion is being made for the bench below. The fabric is a tweedy chenille with pale green and turquoise. I have a couple more pillows too.

So pretty, Sue. I love the dining area. Did you take that cow from your place in RI? Pretty sure I have envied it before! I also like the little sink alcove; it's charming but I think it would also be nice functionally. Great choices. Enjoy your kitchen!

Thank you all so much! I'm actually going to bake something tomorrow, woohoo! I haven't really baked much in the past 15 months we've lived here because the oven never worked right.

I appreciate all your enthusiasm along the way. My IRL friends just aren't that interested in the obsessive details like some of us are! They just want to know where the wine and snacks are.

Mtn, that cow painting has moved around quite a bit. It was actually purchased at the tail end of our last kitchen renovation, in our other house, about 13 years ago. Then the cows moved to our cottage for a few years...then we moved, and we were missing the cows, so they came back and were hung on another wall in the kitchen here. So this time they just moved about 8' from where they used to be.

Thank you, thank you! We are enjoying the kitchen (I’ve made apple crisp and cinnamon bread this week!) and DD is handling her crutches and knee scooter well (gymnastics skills/strength come in handy). Snow is coming in a few days...that will add an extra element of difficulty but at least it held off until she got used to the crutches, etc.

I love it all, and am glad to hear that your DD is recovering well Sue. Happy Holidays!
