Skip the crown in LR and use thicker base molding throughout.

If I don’t do crown molding in the living room, should I still do it in the two bedrooms?

If you have money. Molding is created really for hiding poor sheetrock angles, mostly in house remodels if there are cracks at the corners. Or to hide the joints of cabinets to the ceiling as in the kitchen you have pictured... You can let that be your guide and omit, or you can add it to the Master Bedroom if you feel it needs something special. It's a pain to sand and scrape and putty and keep looking nice, but it's cheaper than mending poor sheetrock wall to ceiling corners.. The simpler the design the easier it is to initially finish and than maintain down the road.

The kitchen area is fine as it complements and is integral to cabinets (although not essential) your space looks modest in design generally and the black window frames are a nice punctuation . You can do urban loft look or whatever version you care for w decor themes. Adding crown molding in living space and bedrooms just complicates the clean look that's becoming your renovated aesthetic. Let it rest w the kitchen cabinet application.

I would not do crown anywhere else except in the kitchen where it is now.

We are in the same boat with open plan and wondering if we need to continue our 10" crown that we need in the kitchen to cover the soffits, into the great room and dining room. Or if we can end the crown around the cabinet. any ideas? thanks in advance.

Don't do the crown in the living room. Beef up the casing around your windows, looks really skimpy in the pics. And beef up the baseboard. And yes, go ahead and put crown in the bedrooms. Ignore what redsilver said about crown moulding being a band-aid solution. It's an architectural feature that's been around for centuries.
