Yes, we need pictures of the other walls. I have a hunch that there is too much furniture/decor in this room preventing you from recognizing the best spot for your tv.

And yes, there’s literally nowhere in the little corner you have shown us for a tv.

If you want electric, you could look at electric log sets and electric fireplace inserts.

Thank you all for your comments. Unfortunately, the area near the fireplace is the only wall where a TV can be hung. To put the TV on the opposite wall would require seating in front of the fireplace. The living room is very small and oddly shaped and often end up watching TV on computer.

You said suggestions have all looked tacky.

That's because the fireplace needs to be replaced with a fireplace that will look right with a tv above it. Even if you extend the wall to the ceiling - it won't look right.

Consider getting rid of the fireplace and using that space for a tv or redo the fireplace.

There is not much to gain by trying to throw a tv over this fireplace. Unless you are open to covering part of the L - which you say that you do not want to do. So there are not many options for a wall mounted tv there that would not look awkward.

Plus, what do you gain by a tv over the fireplace? It will make the viewing height too high - and for what?

Sometimes, putting a tv over a fireplace is a logical choice for a space, and it can work. But it is mostly not an optimal placement. And it is also not the best Feng Shui - in terms of giving the tv such a prominent position in the home; it can make the tv appear to be more important than people.

I think you need some type of proper tv console... not only for a better look for the tv setup - but also to have a better look for your entry.

It's not really easy to get an idea of your space with the pictures given. I don't think I've ever encountered so many angled walls. The wall perpendicular to the fireplace really expands and contracts in various pictures. But at first glance it is where I would hang a TV if at all. My first choice I think would be in front of the window down from the front door. I have a family room set up with the TV in front of the window and it functions just fine. No wires seen. I question if the other furniture is properly sized for the room, we really can't get a good sense of this space. . It's and odd placement for a fireplace. If it weren't there a sofa or love seat up against the stairs would give you a place for a TV, opposite. If the fireplace is an L as I read above then having a console covering part of the firebox just makes no sense.

The OP has the tv placed next to the firebox currently. And why is that? I imagine it is a logical place for the tv. So an actual tv console would look better than this existing arrangement, imo.

Can you take a picture from the stairs, maybe even top of stairs, facing whole room? You really aren’t showing what is needed.

Here is the easel idea with some art added. If you use a tv that can display digital art - or if you place some art over the tv - this could be a look when the tv is off.

You can look on Etsy.com. If you search for ‘art over tv’ or ‘art to cover tv’, there are many options.

I'd mount the TV on the wall behind the front door. The door should be closed while viewing anyway. That way you are looking forward with the TV and fireplace forward of your seating area.

Thanks for suggestions! I have no objection to remodel fireplace and eliminate L, if not too expensive. Using an easel for TV is a NO, I have young grandbabies. I think keeping TV on console next to FP is ugly and you can see wires in back when walking in front door. Iused to have TV in armoire there. The wall to the right of front door is actually small and too far. That leaves putting the TV in front of window, which I never thought about but is not my preference, as I love as much light as possible. However, it is a consideration. Or, hanging the TV above the existing couch and moving couch perpendicular to FP (my old floorplan). There would only be optimal viewing from a chair next to FP, for one person, but may be the best consideration. TV above FP Fireplace would be a bit high, but could be pulled down, and is best viewing for a group of people but I understand your objections. FP to opposite wall is 11'. The wall above the fireplace is 2'2" and corner wall is less than 2'. More photos.

ps. reconsidering temporarily moving existing tv to right of front door even though wall is a bit far and would only fit a smaller tv. plus, concerned if door opened too wide it might slam into tv. that wall is 3'6"

Well, i moved tv near front door. its an improvement for now new tv would prob be hung and wont need sound box (hard of hearing). i agree with pearl remodel and still feel tv hung on slat wall over FP tues room together. thanks!

Showing a floor plan may help …to offer other ideas…Pearl’s idea looks perfect.. but scale and furnishing may be a challenge…for instance the height of the tv will be uncomfortable if the seating is too close

Also a traffic pattern requiring people to walk in front of the tv maybe distracting and inconvenient

Lastly the size of your tv will need to be increased.. more than you need/wish🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel the TV should be on the full wall on a console or on the wall. This way you can see both the TV and the fireplace. Also another option is the sofa in front of the window and both chairs opposite.

This LOOKS great--but one person can watch TV comfortably. Seating has to face TV is TV watching is the goal. Function!!!!

At least two people can watch that tv easily, maybe three. The spot closest to tv on sofa isn’t great but other two and red chair are fine. Tv could also float above a unit like in this pic and have and articulating arm so it can be angled more depending on who is sitting where

More good suggestions. I am happy to provide room dimensions but what is the best (easiest) way to do so that would be helpful?

Originally the TV was on console in front of the large wall and the couch was in front of fireplace. We also had the couch to the side, as suggested. Obviously in front of fireplace didnt work well and even to the side, the couch took up quite a bit of this small room. I am willing to try the couch in front of window which allows a nice view to the back yard beyond the DR. It will block the window a bit but more importantly, it isn't the best solution for viewing TV. However, as mentioned, if TV is hung on a bracket it can be lowered and angled as needed. The idea was to get an Oled TV, very good for hearing impaired, though Frame TV would be aesthetically more pleasing since TV will be focal point of room.

Pearl Remolding has the best solution! Could it look even better by extending the wall out even further to hide the first stair rail? I think it would look better covering up all the stairsteps and railings.

I think Pearl has given you the best solution and I like that the width of the slatted wall extends beyond the fireplace, so the new wall lines up perfectly. One other thought would be moving the tv to a den or family room if you have one rather than having it in your living room.

Still taking many of your suggestions into consideration. this new idea brings the tv lower for better viewing and a foot farther away. but takes up a lot of room.

The half wall setup in the new photo looks okay but the view of the open stairwell behind it looks busy to me. I really like a full height wall like in @Pearl Remodeling’s rendering, perhaps even a bit wider than shown.
