Paint Cabinets?

We have moved into a new home recently and we are trying to update one step at a time. One of the first things we did is update the countertops and backsplash. Painting the walls will be the next big project. Should I leave the cabinets wood or paint them?

Depends on the condition of the cabinets and how the current layout suits you.

A high quality refinish for your cabinets is not cheap and must be considered before you spend on new countertops.

Sorry the photos didn’t post! We already update the countertops and are prepared for the cost of painting the cabinet. I was wondering if the wood looks good??

I would not as the condition looks good and the finish as well.

If you really do not like the color then quote for painting with a good quality painter that specializes in cabinetry. Also quote for new cabinetry so you have an idea either way; after that you can make your decision.

Are wood cabinets coming back in style?

    Always has been.

    Your cabinets look great!

The only thing that might update your space is to replace the cabinet over your cooktop with a stainless chimney-style hood. The extreme variation in cabinet height is dated.

Also, the island blocking the path between fridge and sink would drive me bananas. If there is a way to pull the island away from the cooktop to clear the path, I'd do it.

It looks good. I wouldn't paint (unless I really dislike the finish for some reason, and really prefer painted cabinetry to stained, and love color X and have several thousands to invest to do it properly)

and yes, besides what Filipe says which is true, wood is coming back, trend-wise

You haven’t said whether or not YOU like the cabinets the way they are. Isn’t your opinion the only that matters? None of us will ever be in your kitchen.

Quality wood is always in style. Besides, what one likes is actually more important than what the new trend is. Your cabinets look to be quality cabinets. Your kitchen looks beautiful just the way it is. I wouldnt do anything more at all to it. Congratulations on your new home.

Your kitchen is lovely! The cabinets are such a nice color of wood, and they are providing an important balance to the lighter counters and backsplash. What color are you painting the walls? BTW, I think your pendant lights are awesome and if I were to do anything to your kitchen it would be to sprinkle just a bit more of that color around.

    Congratulations on your new home!

I would leave as is except paint the walls.

Start using the kitchen to see what you like & do not. Unfortunately the layout spacing does not look user friendly. The island looks too big for the space & is in the way of a comfortable cooking experience. You may find out it drives you nuts & want to do a new layout later. I would not put any of your hard earn money into this kitchen until you get to know if the layout is ok as is. All money saved from doing anything else can go into the kitchen you truly want.

Here's is diagram to show spacing concerns.

Well, there is something you could now do to help the fridge spacing between island.

Get a less deep fridge, but sometimes there's not enough food storage for families with a counter depth. I would shop around to see if it would work.

If you need the extra fridge space within, getting someone to cut into wall & adjust electrical, so you can recess the fridge into wall will help.

There are several nice features in the kitchen.

Bright countertops on the dark wood cabinets which makes the space look brighter & bigger. I like the current backsplash with the current elements.

Looks like good quality cabinets & the stain color is a nice shade.

    Big open sink.

Frosted glass cabinets to reflect light.

    Attractive floors.

Hopefully there is flooring under the island or extra flooring that came with house for patchwork, if you ever changed layout.

Overall, it looks nice. It's just tight. I think having the spacing above the cabinets to ceiling does help it not feel too squeezed in.

I would not change the hood to an open hood in this style of kitchen. The hood you have now, works.
