Brrr is right. Not raining yet, but forecast for later this afternoon. Gonna try to get out and pull more weeds then once it gets wet, I'll head inside to do some basement work. Woke up last night and smelled some nasty that I think was coming from the basement. Either that or I was having quite the awful dream.
Candace, love the plans, I've pored over them so much, I'll be completely at home when I come to visit. Don't worry, I'll only stay for a decade or two. Couple of ideas on the lights, questions and general drooling. Talk to you later, Paul Bunyan :)
Just came in to grab a snack and no sooner did I walk in and it started raining cats & dogs. Good timing!!!

Back home now, just rang out my jacket...polar fleece in the pouring rain.....ya......not such a good idea. The darn thing must have weighed 100 lbs. Burnt lots of branches and a few mother sized stumps, anyone want firewood.

Robin, doesn't it feel like October, brrrrr it's so damp and cool, the wind and rain can screw off already :(

kimdee, tournament update please, how did you make out in the rain?

wonder how Stk and Ez made out with their projects today.

mforr, lol only a decade or two!!!!! you kicking around?
    Alive and kicking :)
Nothing more disgusting than a wet, smoky wood chippy fleece. Yuck, you must have been thrilled to get that thing off.

Hi everyone!! Just got home...started messing with the pool again...it's green!
Nice weekend, Sat. was chilly...today was much nicer..did a little boating, tubing and swimming...I jumped in with Jay in the middle of the lake several times...it was so nice..felt so refreshing!!
That sounds like fun Jayme, bet he loved that, you're a fun mom!! This boat was a great purchase for your family. I hope they'll all remember these good times :)
Sounds like a great weekend Jayme!

Candace - its so darned nasty lately. Blech!!! Just wait though... I'm back at work Tuesday so the weather should smarten up then. And I work part of the long weekend, so it should be nice then too. Lol
  • 13 years ago
Thanks Robin, Tuesday I'll plan to wear shorts and I'll even bring my shades :) Ahhhh, I feel better already :)
Oh, Candace, you're such a meanie, poor robin ;)
Ok, how tall is the ceiling over the staircase, only saw floor plan and electrical, no elevations. Also are the lights in the covered courtyard all inset? If its that covered, you might be able to use the foucalts orb light if you have it rewired, shouldn't be too hard to keep clean with that kind of coverage.
K, mforr, and can't wait to hear your ideas on the lights and other things too.
    I think there's a bit of a delay happening tonight. :)
Posted lighting question about 20 minutes ago,lol
  • 13 years ago
She's not being mean... just taking advantage of the fact that our region only seems to get nice days when I'm working.
I've been joking lately that I'll switch platoons just to get some decent weather on my days off. Lol :)

LOL, sorry Robin I'll prey to the sun instead.

Flat ceilings are 9', the height of the barrel is a darn good question. I just scoured through the plans and I don't see it listed, not even on the elevation plans. Looks like approx 15-16' not exactly sure though. The ceiling over the staircase would be the 15-16' because it's barrel there too.

All the lighting in the courtyard and on the deck are inset in the barrell vault roof. The lighting in the lower patio (flat 9' roof, walkout) is as well. Yes it's very covered, all except the decks off the master bedroom.
I don't blame you, and no, Candace is not a meanie, I was only messing with her.
Candace, where are you? I'm going to bed soon, have to get up for workmen tomorrow, yay and groan. Want it done, but I'll bet tomorrow will be the one day I'll feel like iI could sleep past 4-5 in the am.
    Oops crossed posts.
Can the orb go in the very center of courtyard and one over the stairs, following each other in a line from outside to inside, almost like a reflection? Very cool
  • 13 years ago
    last modified: 13 years ago
They sure can, why not? Oh ya baby that would be Very cool!!!!
Would it be too much to have one on the deck but in line with one in the courtyard and staircase. I could have the chains re-made at a long length and just hook them up higher when there not needed that low.
On the main deck area or in the courtyard. I have 2, sofa's I'd like to use plus add a coffee table and hang one of those orbs quit low over the table.
No, I like the flow from outside to inside to outside. Like it a lot
  • 13 years ago
Would the newly minted "lighting expert" like that idea, giggle giggle :)
That would look great, like about 4-5 feet? So it's really low, but not in your faces while sitting? Or would you prefer it at 6-7 feet so that if people are standing as well it's not in their faces?
    last modified: 13 years ago
The "lighting expert" is fast asleep, and that's a good place for him to be LOL.
I think 5' would be real loungy, but my 6'4" son would appreciate it much higher. With a coffee table under it he wouldn't walk there anyway. Unless he was dancing on the table which has happened a time or two (he gets that from my side)
I think the key is for the ones outside that would have to be re-wired anyway, is to have all kinds of flexibility with the length of the chain.
    last modified: 13 years ago
Exactly, you could have them on some kind of pulley type thing that allows you to raise and lower it. If it becomes a wiring hassle, which it shouldn't be, you could always de electrify and use candles and a cleat on side wall where the extra length could be tied off. But I'm certain the electrician and/or lighting re-wirer can figure that kind of thing out for you. Dancing on table, of course, swinging from new chandelier, no no no!! And concussion from orb/head collision not allowed either
  • 13 years ago
    Where are the sputniks going?
    last modified: 13 years ago
I wanted to use 3 orbs over the dining table. I don't know where the sputniks should go, maybe over the island or in the jack and jill bathroom? I really haven't thought much about where any of them should go. I've been too busy with everything else LOL. Plus my biggest fear is to over do it with the lighting. The ceilings are smooth everywhere and the use of recessed pots for a cleaner look is preferred BUT i just fell in love with these damn lights.
I know, it really gets overwhelming. I like the idea of sputniks over island if they can go high enough to not be in your face. It's no good to look at lighting as you look across island to other areas. How is height in basement bar area? That would be another cool place for sputniks too.on a dimmer of course, most of those pendant/chandeliers should be on dimmers for mood.
    last modified: 13 years ago
There is dimmer switches everywhere, I can't live without dimmers and I can't stand light in my face either. The basement, bar area included, has a finished height of 9' as well. BUT the "lighting expert" has made it clear that he is picking the lights for that area.......we'll see LOL. I also like the idea of having a large unexpected fixture in a bathroom, there is the island in my walk in closet, could put one there and/or through the ensuite. In bedroom #2 I'd like to hang 2 fixtures, one on either side of the bed because I hate lamps.
Ez, can you please elaborate.....do tell LOL what are you seeing that im not
  • 13 years ago
Like it in bathroom, love it in closet. Not great for next to bed, think the light would be annoying there. Unless its not over nightstands. My bedroom (main house) has canopy bed. Put chandeliers in center of room, but one on each side of bed. But I have lamps, and you will want lighting there. Maybe some sleek looking hard wired swing arms, nothing prissy.
Just make sure any fixture you put in the bathroom won't rust. Pet peeve of mine...
Here's a few ideas for interesting bedside wall lights. Not everyday blah.
EZ, like the idea of following orbs. When I thought about the indoor outdoor looking like a reflection of each other, I also see the actual reflections in the window over the stairway to basement multiplying the orbs too
  • 13 years ago
Ez, have you checked my plans in my idea book titled "Lake House", please check them out.
The orb in the courtyard, inline with the one over the stairs and one on deck would be great however those three must be inline, agreed?
Dining table is not under the barrel like the other areas, so the basic 9' smooth ceiling is whats up top but completely open to the great room along one side, windows on 2 other sides.
    As usual, forgot picture lol
    mforr, where's the ideas?

Robin, good point. I have replaced the fan cover in the bathroom many times in this house for that exact reason.

Great point Robin, that's why I like restoration hardware lighting and fixtures for bathrooms. Towel bars, shelves, mirrors. They are cast brass with the chrome, bronze, nickel, pewter, whatever finish on top. They are lifetime fixtures. Never rust, pit or bubble. Best money spent, bathrooms are hard on metallic finishes. Love the stuff there a lot :)
what to do, I like all three :)
No chance of the price listed being for a pair :(
Firewood for sale, here ye, here ye, I have firewood for sale!!!!!!!
    mforr are these all RH
That's the way to do it!! Apocalypse coming, people will want that firewood. ;)
I'll have to check you out tomorrow morning, got to wind down and get to sleep probably wont happen but I've got to try. How come the hubbies have no problem shutting down and passing out?

Night candace, Robin, EZ and whoever there who's not talking or hasn't quite arrived yet. :)
    Yes, RH, always good finishes.

Night mforr, talk to you tomorrow.

Back from the tournament -- it rained, it was windy and COOOOOLLLD. And we lost our hawk to the other club! Boo! But it was a great event, everyone had a wonderful time and toughed it out and that's all that matters really in the end.

Hope you all had a great day, whatever you were up to... I haven't had a chance to get caught up yet!

    xoxo
You said the code work Kimdee, you had a wonderful time. Good for you.
I was thinking you had to be close to finishing up hours ago and if you weren't done, it's cause you were frozen stiff somewhere out on the course. I was an awful day outside, we need Robin to work tomorrow (maybe she will get called in) so the nice weather comes back LOL...just kidding Robin, you deserve those day off and nice ones too!!!!!

Well Ladies that's it for me, have to be up in 4 hours :( yuck!!!!

Yeah, it was not a nice day AT ALL. We didn't tee off until 3pm, and man it was cold. I am frozen stiff still, even after dinner. I'm going to have a nice hot shower and hit the sack -- my knees are aching. It's a tough day playing the rain, makes everything harder.

I played against a lady who is much better with me, and I held my own against her. We were back and forth for the whole back nine and she finally won on the 17th hole. I like matches like that where it's close and one person doesn't run away with the whole thing off the bat.

It was a good day. Here's hoping for better weather this week and for the long weekend -- Club Championships next weekend, gotta get my game on for that!
That's good Kimdee, good girl. I am glad that you had a good day.
Kd - go soak in a long hot bath, warm up and ease the aches and pains. Sorry you lost, but glad you played so well yourself. Sounds like you had a good challenge.

Sorry I can't keep up with the lighting talk, you are almost talking another language to me.
