We had the same here this fall. An upper 70 degree day falling into the teens at night, but in early October. Even my old reliables like grow low sumac didn't color as usual. I had one viburnum and strangely, a chinkapin oak that colored nicely this fall. The leaves on most else just kind of crisped and fell.

We've had some years with really nice fall color. I'd imagine those were years when we had a more gradual change to cold temps and not these extreme, dryish cold snaps.

Same. Leaves got clobbered in early October after a warm Septembe. 2nd year in a row. That’s a recipe for poor color.

I'm just about 10 miles south of Barb, so I've had pretty much the same thing as she has. I do have one viburnum of some sort by my front door--which is in a totally inappropriate place!--so I keep it cut down to 3 or 4 feet high--and it's started to turn red in the last week or so. This coming week of COLD should have all the leaves on the ground! And my one neighbor has some kind of a bush that's turning pretty red right now--will probably loose all its leaves in the next week too. Everything else has pretty much "gone by" without being noticeable this year.

Pretty strange "snow storm" we're having down here right now! Last nite NOAA was saying I should be getting from 7" up to possibly 12" total snow thru Monday. Today they're predicting 3 to 5" total! It's been "snowing" ever since I got up today--and so far I can still see grass! They're still saying it's gonna get "worse" over nite, but from what I've seen so far I'll be (pleasantly!) surprised if I get more than a couple inches total! I was hoping for "enough" to water everything well!

The temps, on the other hand, I suspect they're right about--unfortunately! Day time highs in the 20s all the way up until Friday, and right now they're saying a low of ZERO on Wednesday nite! I was 75º here yesterday! This must be Denver!

Well. This is what I was afraid of. "This must be Denver!"

And, this October must be about the same here. A colorful fall doesn't always happen but there have been many. Some pleasant weather would have been appreciated. Instead, it has been cold and windy.

Now, we are to go into rather severely cold and very windy. Perhaps, there will be a blanket of white snow left from that weather. I kind of hope so. I enjoy the bright freshness of new snow.

It is beautiful! We're looking to break a record here for the coldest October temp recorded, -6 predicted for Weds. night with a windchill of -19. We have probably 5 inches on the ground this morning with 5 - 9" more coming today and another 3-5" tonight.

I called in to work today, something I rarely do. There's something about this storm that says, "Take a seat and ride this one out."
