You know what, Fran? In my opinion, you can make those windows any way you want to. In fact, you probably wouldn't be the first one to make them that way. You just do it. I've gotten to where if I think I can make a pattern easier than the directions state, I do it! Don't forget to let us see a picture. :-)

Thanks Sharon. I'm not exactly a novice quilter but it's good to know that some people think your thinking isn't off the wall.

Fran, if the quilt is going to be on the wall and not on a bed, I probably wouldn’t even worry about zig-zagging around the windows. You can raw edge around them with a short straight stitch after fusing them down. I’ve done this for wall quilts and for table runners and never gave them a second thought.

If you use a button hole stitch it will look like a window frame.
