Master Bedroom Windows

Looking for last minute advice and any insight. Have to pick windows tomorrow for new build.

Our master bedroom is 20 x 15.

We have two 38” windows on the 20’ wall and are struggling what windows do put on the 15’ wall. Our plan was to put our bed on the 15’ wall and we thought about higher windows flanking the bed for additional light and allowing night stands not placed in front of windows but unsure of the aesthetics of this.

I was originally thinking I would want windows on the 15’ bed wall because the driveway is on that side of the house and Mr. Paranoid would like to see the driveway if any disturbances in the night.

If we don’t do windows on the 15’ wall, then we were thinking to do double hung windows on the 20’ wall.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!

Your windows are 38" wide? How tall? For me, I like way bigger windows, but maybe that's a taste thing. Bigger windows would also make the back of the house seem less closed in.

I have a tiny bedroom like the one below. I had a window installed over the bed just like in the photo. I can have privacy and still lots of light. There's room for a headboard and lighting below it. I also like that it's a canopy window. I can have it open even when it's raining. Maybe a window like that would give you the light you're wanting?

We did a large transom above where we wanted our bed to go.

We have thought about a large window over headboard similar to what you posted.

Like the idea of windows over the head of the bed. If you are installing windows there, then measure the width of your bed and make sure the window widths and any pieces in between add up to that width. If at all possible, choose windows that will open AND that are at least double pane windows and rated for cold winters where you live. Heat rises so high windows would need to keep the heat in.

Also, before you choose your windows, know what kind of window treatment you could use for them. Shutters with adjustable louvers would be worth considering for high windows over the bed.

You should do windows on that wall.

Ditto the comment on coverage. The little windows are an issue with coverage if you like to block light in the long summer days. You can cover them of course but having 4 individual windows to worry about each night really screams for something automated.

We did full height windows flanking the bed despite the nightstand issue. We have full height automated curtains (ceiling to floor).

I would not want to be reaching behind a nightstand to open and close window treatments. I don't see the benefit of a window if it is always covered.

My over-bed-window (actually all my windows) is Energy Star, so there's that..... I don't have any window treatment on the window since there are no privacy issues. Moonlight in the bedroom can be something quite special.

We have high transom type windows above where our bed is and the a much larger window with both sides that ope on the wall perpendicular to the bed wall. IMO those windows are way too small for such a large wall

We decided on 48” x 60” windows on back side of house in master bedroom and matching windows in family room below it on first floor.

We also decided to do matching 30” x 30” square on the 15’ wall like the ones that will flank the fireplace in the living room.

Thinking of doing an accent wall for headboard wall in the master bedroom similar to this with shiplap or something else.
