regardless of what is in the pot ... all the variables remain the same ... so .. imo ... treat it just like you do the hosta ...

the variables are.. will the pot freeze solid... and how you manage accumulated water during rain or thaws ... snow is usually irrelevant.. in that form ... and if it all gets buried.. probably all the better ... its a great insulator ...

and finally.. the issue of sun on a black pot in winter.. and the roots thawing.. going in and out of dormancy ...

dont complicate your life.. trying to discover and deal with what amounts to the same variables ...

after thinking about this ... and presuming you have an open spot... you might be best off.. just healing it in .... and plant it in its permanent spot in spring.. after you make the permanent spot ...

i wouldnt bother bare rooting and all that stuff ... just jam it in.. and let ma nature take care of it ...

Ok. I wondered if I could just drag it into the unheated shed but wondered if it would be too dry.

I'm literally going to plant it in the driveway then...you'll appreciate that. hahahaha there is an area that isn't paved.
