Finally bought myself some virburnums

I have been wanting virburnums for SO long, never ended up putting any in at my last house. So I decided to bite the bullet and just buy some already, since I needed some shrubs for one side of the house anyway. I ended up with a few Koreanspice ones and a Burkwood one. The Burkwood one is probably going to be too large for the spot, but I don't care, I just wanted it because I heard it's beautiful in flower and the smell is to die for -- I can always move it somewhere if I need to, it can find a home somewhere out there on 3 acres LOL! Looking forward to my first spring with the virburnum in full bloom!

Well, I did put the Burkwood under one of the bedroom windows, and this particular area I have to pass right by every morning and evening on my way to the barn -- so I will definitely be able to enjoy the scent with it planted there. Because, you know, your presumption is incorrect -- I can't sit down long enough :0p. The joy is in the labor for me.

place the burkwood where it will perfume your deck ... presuming you ever sit down long enough.. to enjoy it in the evening... with an adult beverage ...

it can be pruned to size.. to some extent ,,, and i am sure you know i dont mean sheared ...

or out in the pasture.. where you might put a bench some day ....

With those two selections your property is going to be perfumed wonderfully. These are my favorite spring bloomers because of the lovely scents wafting through my yard. Congratulations!

If you can find the room, I'd encourage you to include a doublefile viburnum. What it may lack in scent, it more than makes up for in an extremely showy flower display. IMO, this is one the finest flowering shrubs for any garden!

Dunno about your location but here, both the Korean spice and the burkwood vibes bloom much too early in the season for one to be comfortable spending time in the evening lounging on one's deck with an adult beverage :-) It is still not very balmy here in March.

^^ I'm working over time on putting in more trees around the perimeter of the property, especially down by the road, for privacy -- large shrubs would be perfect for those spaces where I have to be careful because of overhead power lines. I'll put the doublefile on the list of potentials.

Agreed, GG I have at least 5: from Shasta to the "species." and everything inbetween.

I wish they didn't droop so fast when they get thirsty.

Their vertical shape in the garden, the flowers, the berries, the fall leaf color (on some)

is a lot of bang for the buck.
