Pruning back Gracillimus Maiden Grass

My gracillimus maiden grass has been growing outward from the original planting to the point that it’s now severely intruding on my roses. I had to cut off the sides that were shielding the roses from sun, but that looks ugly. Now I’m wondering how and when to cut them back to their original area. I normally cut the entire clump down to about a foot, either after it goes brown if there’s no snow on the ground, or else after the snow melts in the spring, but obviously that doesn’t stop it from growing back.


After getting it back to size, would it make sense to put some lawn edging around it to keep it that size?
