Agree to paint the lower cabinets. Tile (or a diff linoleum if tile isn't in the budget) Scrape the wallpaper and change the light over the sink or get rid of it altogether. The fluorescent light could become track lighting. I might do open shelving on the top to open the space. Hard to see from pics but a small island might work too.

Cynthia from Gilmans in Mountain View says: The cabinet to the left of the sink could be 12" -13" deep and come all the way down to the counter and give you lots of dish and glass storage in one cabinet. If you have nice dishes or glasses to display use glass fronts on that cabinet to lighten up the area. I love the idea of painting the lower cabinets and getting new upper ones using the correct height. You can use a wood tone
on the uppers for contrast if you would like. The paint and new uppers would give you a fresh new look!

I agree with changing the floor and painting the cabinets. Maybe if you can't change the upper cabinets out yet painting them and adding a more contemporary tile or stone backsplash could lighten up the kitchen for less work? And then you could more easily use the existing counters as workspace and even storage space (for small appliances, mug trees?)

Hi.....Your ceiling really does slope, and having wall cabinets on the stove wall only makes it more obvious.
If you have any other space that could accommodate a pantry, that would be a solution for more space, and
the possibility of removing those cabinets on the stove wall. I would leave the cabinet color, but get hardware
to give them some style, replace the counter top with white Corian with molded sink, new faucet remove the wallpaper, and replace the floor with a neutral that has a bit more color so the white appliance has more contrast. The lighting needs to change, trac lights would work. If you have the option, stainless steel appliances would make a huge difference, and give more options for the floor.

I would suggest painting the cabinets a white or even a dark charcoal gray. If this were my kitchen I would demo the upper cabinets and install long open shelves to display beautiful china and stemware. Paint the kitchen a beautiful white and you will see how the space will open up tremendously. If you cant install new tile floor because of budgeting, try ripping up the linoleum tile and paint the existing concrete floor with stripes or a diagonal diamond shape pattern.. Its a beautiful open kitchen it just needs a little TLC... Good Luck

What about switching those upper cabinets to open shelves or putting shelves underneath them? You could even remove some doors and put glass doors on the uppers. Is there room to do a peninsula or an island for more storage?

If I were to design a kitchen for this space, and had an open slate, these are some of the changes I would suggest:

1. Use frameless cabinets instead of face frame for a cleaner, more streamlined look.
2. Choose a recessed door style rather that a raised for a lighter feel, and definitely not an arched or cathedral door (way out of fashion).
3. Add a wall cabinet above the hood.
4. Increase height of wall cabinets on range wall if possible, leaving 18” from bottom of uppers to countertop.
4. Step up height of wall cabinets on sink wall for added storage and interest.
5. Change out range to stainless steel with a smooth top.
6. Full width false front on sink base instead of two fronts.
7. Suggest a quartz countertop instead of the dark laminate.
8. Paint or tile walls up to cabinets (unless you really like the flowery wall paper)
9. Choose a lighter color for cabinets so the area feels more spacious and less heavy.
10. Use a Super Lazy Susan base corner cabinet or Magic Corner for more functional storage.
