Hanging a light over a bed with 9ft ceilings

Ok. I have read the rules to determine the size fixture in width or circumstance based on the length x width of room rule. I have 9 ft ceilings and want to hang a light in the room that will hang about at the end of the bed with a bench located at the end as well. So the issue of someone hitting their head is not the issue. If I follow the rule and go with the size of my room at 15x15 that would be a 30” light. Any 30” light will be too tall to hang because of the height of a 30” light. I also would like to mention it is a post bed. I personally think a 30” light would overpower this room and not to mention it would hang halfway down to my bed. Can anyone give me any suggestions or opinions on this? I am not looking to use a flush or semi flush mount fixture. I have included a picture for reference with the post bed, but you can’t see the ceiling or full room. The other picture is of my other bedroom which is identical to the one with the post bed. I included it so the room could be seen in full. TIA.

Hi wdccruise. I despise ceiling fans in bedrooms....sorry it’s just my thing!!!

Instead of using the size of the room I would play with the proportions that you already have. Measure down the length of that fan, not the width but the length overall. I would even include the length of the pull chain, I would think that would be as low as you would want it to hang, I would guess the largest length would be about 18 inches long. I also think it depends on the style you like..........

Hi RL. Thanks for your feedback. I measured from the floor to bottom of pull chain and that is 7 ft. Which seems to be the golden rule for distance between bottom of light to floor. I’m having a hard time finding a light that is large enough in width without the height exceeding the tallness of the fixture. Do you think since it is hung over a bed where head space is not an issue, that I could use a light that would hang below the end of the pull chain by a few inches?

Why are you not installing a fan in this room as well (fan size recommendations)? You'd get the advantage of a fan in addition to the light like you have in the room shown in the second picture.

These are the ones I’ve narrowed it down to. This is a better pic of the entire to. The ones with chains I could hang at the 7 ft mark at the bottom. The flush mount would be at about 7 1/2 ft clearance. I can find a few others I like that are a little larger in dia, but they would hang below that 7ft mark.

Both ceiling fans are coming down. Will be the last two in my house.
