Current arrangement looks fine to me, thought I would add some kind of table, short shelving unit (possibly use that one covered in boxes in the hall?) and put it next to the entry door, perpendicular to the wall, to create your "entryway". This way, it won't feel so much like you walk into the middle of the living room. Your could add some plants, a few decorative objects and use it for mail, keys, storage for halts etc. Move teh TV stand over a bit (or you said you may just get rid of it entirely, nice idea).

I'd also get new curtains that reach the floor, those look rather short. You could also add a colorful rug under the couch area to further 'define' the living room space vs. the entryway. Add some cheerful color to the room in throw pillows and art as it's very brown and white. Lastly, lower those starfish art pieces so they are at eye level. A toy box in the corner might be nice to hide away toys ;)

We have a new puppy so the toys never stay put away. The starfish pictures that are in our kitchen are at eye level even though from photo they might not look it. The curtains are short because we did have the couch on that wall for awhile at first, which I actually prefer. The boxes are photos we need to go through. Sorry it’s been a stressful time getting everything unpacked etc now just trying to settle in....I have lots of deco but haven’t added it until the furniture is in its permanent place. It will stay nautical scheme on the browns, white washes, navys and grays.

I think you have the right arrangement and I agree that the curtains should go to the floor. Add a rug and coffee table. I would not get one of those consoles with the fireplace. They are just ugly. I'd get a wall-mounted electric fireplace and hang the TV above it.

Where would the cords go?

I have two "Options" and I like the angled Option 2 very much. Sometimes in spaces like this you can free up space with some angled furniture. I put a console beside a fireplace. Don't like the console/TV/fireplace look at all. I wouldn't do that. Here are the scale layouts. I don't know the exact size of your sofa, but guessed it is 84" long. Might be a bit longer, but this still works.

I would put a "storage/console" unit on wall with windows to give you extra storage space. Possibly a coat tree behind the door.

You want to leave approx. 3' of room coming from front door into and around the space. The angled sofa in Option 2 provides this easily. I put a deep storage unit on the wall with short drapery but you could use pieces that aren't as deep if you want more room. Just figured you needed some storage space behind closed doors. You could even do a antique armoire on that wall if you wanted to. I'm not sure if there are windows on that front door wall?? Lots of possibilities. In these drawings/layouts, each square is equal to 1 square foot.

Place looks a little spartan so I lengthened the curtains, added a sofa table to corral the toys, and started a gallery wall around the TV. If you do a wall hung fireplace instead of a console, you'll save enough space for a coffee table.

I believe sofa is "recliner" type? Hence no furniture behind it? I could be wrong. I thought I read that.

Cord management is a real problem hence why I put console in for TV. plus it is better viewing angle.

If you don’t have “sliders” stop at Lowes on way home. Get package that has soft and hard ones. Need soft for wood floors, hard for carpet. Makes moving furniture like yours so easy!

Flo, since I don’t have a fireplace built in, what would you recommend? I realllllly want to feel cozy during the winter time and a little extra heat won’t hurt either. Thanks!!

A good question. There are a number of ventless fireplaces that could work for you. But in a small space such as yours, i would get furniture settled first then see how to proceed. I will hunt for options for you. Bbl

Ok. No worries. I was thinking of space conservation. That’s good input. You have to keep sizing in mind so you don’t completely overload this room. Smaller scale furniture would be a plus. Really, once you take 3’ walking room around this space your furniture sq footage for furniture is around 13’ x 11’. So that is like a small bedroom.

How about something like this? Walmart has this on line. You have to assemble it so you need someone to help with that. You need electric-outlet as well.

I hope you understand these type units are faux fireplaces and are really just electric room heaters with faux fireplace looks and each unit has pros and cons. Anything else will be much more expensive to install and operate. They do drive power bills up. Some models might allow separate functions of heater and flame-looks. Just be mindful of these details.
