Before and After Cherry Kitchen Refresh

Houzzers- Many of you provided feedback on how to refresh my kitchen back in the summer. The work is completed so here’s the before & after:

NOTE- this is a refresh- the cabinets, while not my favorite color, are in fantastic shape and uber functional.

Updates include:
LVP floors from Provenza in Jet Set
Quartz countertop in Ashen Gray
Marble backsplash
Zephyr hood
New Lighting
New SS appliances
New SS sink
Hardware on the cabinets

Huge improvement!! It looks light & bright (and somehow bigger) even with dark cabinets. Love it!!!

Thanks Paula! Still waiting on new window treatments to round out the refresh.

    Great facelift!!

And i almost forgot, my favorite functional change is- I had the contractor move a few electrical outlets from the backsplash wall area, to underneath the top cabinets. Look how clean the line of backsplash tiles looks with minimally exposed outlets.

    Love this!! Thanks for sharing!

I love how that turned out! I am always sad when people want to paint pretty wooden cabinets. It's great to have an example of how the wood can look perfectly fresh with the right counter and splash. Gorgeous. Kudos.

Beautiful! I love it when people save great stuff — like your cabinets. I also have the micro over oven situation. I would like to change that. Where did you put your microwave?

Sonja- we bought one to sit on the countertop next to the fridge.

Beautiful changes! What is the wall paint color?

    Tqtqtbw- it’s SW Gray Sanctuary

I love this! What’s the brand/name of your backsplash?

This was beautifully done. Where did you end up putting the microwave?

    Beautiful!! I like the hood

@Rebecca- the backsplash is called Meram Blanc Carrara

Looks great!! Love the hood, made your kitchen feel more open. And I love your pendants. Great job! Your cabinets are beautiful and if they are functional and in great shape, why change them? Kudos. :)

Beautiful! The cabinets look fantastic with your countertops and back and floors!!

Wonderful! The range hood alone made your kitchen look 15 years newer!

I love it! I too have cherry cabinets and have been wondering what to do with them. Did you darken the stain? Also, where did you get your lights (island and sink)? What did you use for under counter lighting? I already have the stainless appliances, can't afford new countertops.

@Kerry- No change with my cabinets, i didn’t use a stain. The lights came from LampsPlus. Under cabinet lighting was installed by the builder years ago. Our contractor had to remove them for the backsplash work and reinstall after.

The new oven and hood make it look like a new kitchen! And the counter and tile splash are icing on the cake. Ballpark cost for the refresh?

Well done!! Those cabs are dark, but man you did a fabulous job of overcoming that darkness and brightening up everything. You have lots of counter space - glad you moved to a counter MW as that range hood is a huge improvement. Again, great job! I know you must be thrilled.

Just curious. Why did you take out the lovely hardwood floors?

The range hood & new lighting alone make such a huge difference. Great rehab.

@Gcubed- We had complete flooring and other remodel done to our home also, but if i ballpark just the kitchen, I’d say $7800 plus the cost of appliances.
@Pam- sorry- the hard wood floors were beat up and not holding up to our dog. We actually placed the LVP on top so whenever we sell the house, if the next owners want them, they are there to be refinished.

    Beautiful update. Very stylish.

Kudos to you! What a well done, thoughtful transformation for a very good price. It looks like an entirely different kitchen - in a great way. Thank you for showing us how you can have a new, stylish, light and bright kitchen for a reasonable price :)

    Well done!!

    Really nice!

    It looks fabulous.

It is so nice to see the end results of a remodel keeping the beautiful wood cabinets. I hate to see all the posts wanting to paint things white. Your results show you can lighten a dark kitchen without going totally white. Love it! Good job thanks for sharing.

Great job! Using lighter materials for the counter and backsplash really helped.

Great refresh, but I am wondering why you would have chosen to remove what looks to be nice hardwood floors and replace with vinyl.

    Very nice! Good choices.

Impressive! You must be very pleased with the results.

ohmigosh. just taking out the range and otr mw made all the difference. Everything looks great but that is the best.

It looks fantastic! I very much prefer the look of a slide in range as it is shows off the backsplash and looks much more open

    That looks nice

    Looks great! Cleaner and brighter.

People don't realize that most of the time installing new light colored counters and backsplash will have a greater impact on the overall brightness of a space, compared to just painting the cabinets white and leaving the counters/backsplash.

Changing from black to stainless appliances also made a big difference.

    Enjoy your "new" kitchen!

    beautifully done. Enjoy :)

Beautiful, and gives me hope for what the future of my kitchen looks like once we complete our own refresh!

You will LOVE your LVP!! How fabulous you left the hardwood for anyone coming behind who embraces the "well used" look. I wish I could lose the small glass tile DH decided on for our bathroom update. Talk about an instantly dated material!! grrrr!!!

It looks much better and brighter!

A great example of how choosing better colors - getting rid of the too much & wrong shades of tan/brown/gray (especially tan!) in particular - can allow the true beauty of stained cabinets to show.

Good work! And very thoughtful to leave the hardwood under the LVT!
