White marble tile backsplash looks grey when installed?

In the middle of having backsplash installed in my kitchen. It's a honed 3 x6 white marble subway. Unfortunately, the tile looks darker now that it is on the wall. Installer says that the thin set is wet and being absorbed by the tile, making the tile look darker and that it should dry out and lighten. I'm hoping so but have installed marble before and don't recall this happening before. Right now, the color is totally off and the tile totally is changed from what came out of the box. Anyone have experience with this?

As long as they are using white thinset and not gray, everything is normal. It will lighten up significantly over 48 hours, but at that stage will still be darker than the original. It will continue to lighten over a couple of weeks time, but more gradually.

It may absorb water from the thinset, and this will take time to dissipate. Probably best to wait to seal the tile. You’re not the only one to notice this on Houzz.
