Inherited a fig tree in my allotment acquired in May. Was told by the chairman that I should leave the fig fruits alone. I was stupid (you should know by now!) and I removed all the fruits bar one, thinking the summer would bring in more fruits and chance of "degustation".

Yesterday, bumped into another allotmenteer who told me that he was given a most delicious fig to eat and that it had been allowed to ripen for TWO years! We were literally standing next to my fig tree with no leaves, but tons of fruits looking green and glum!

Before that, my neighbour told me that the Cypriot who sold him his fig tree was the only tree that would fruit in the UK?
