I often feel the same about my white dove walls. I love the color under my led lights. With low lights it seems grungy and yellowish.

Uh oh... I was going to paint some of our basement walls white dove, but now you've got me second guessing it. We don't get much natural light down there and some of the walls are bricked, so I was going to go with a brighter white (the same color as the trim-- BM Snowfall White) on the non-bricked walls, but my husband wants a slight difference between the wall and trim colors. Of all the white paint chips I looked at, I like White Dove best with our wood-look flooring, brick foundation walls, and the brighter Snowfall White trim. What other colors do you have in your space? Do you have any pictures to share?

I suppose I really should try a sample of the White Dove on our basement walls before the painter buys the paint (he's prepping as I type). I don't want dull/dirty looking walls, but was feeling kind of lazy about getting samples for something as boring as a slightly off white. Thanks for posting this! I'll get a sample to try this weekend and let you know if it looks dingy in our space. I hate daylight LED bulbs (too clinical for my taste) so we will have the soft white bulbs in our basement.

I wanted to do White Dove for our kitchen cabinets since it’s hands down the most recommended white for that, only in our space it looks atrocious. The cabinet refinisher actually thought my Samplize sample was off and tore off a piece to take to his shop and compare - turns out it was the correct color, but even he had never seen it behave like that! Pretty much anything leaning warm looks dingy yellow in our condo, the only thing that looked remotely white out of all my samples was Decorator’s White. I’m still stressing out about it and second guessing because the swatch looks so darn grey...

The other color that I tried was SW Pure White. I painted 2 rooms with this color, looks pretty great. I thought of experimenting with a white that had a bit of tint in it. White dove has so many good reviews online that I decided to give it a shot. I tried the sample, but I guess I wasn't able to judge well with the small sample swatch.

I think I am going to go back to SW Pure white. Do you guys have any other color suggestions? i am aiming for the clean, modern white look that is so in these days. I am basically painting my entire house interior.

I almost always second guess myself when I begin the first coat. the old color framing it makes it look different by contrast. (so in your case, super white primer all around the edges is going to make your dove white look dull/dark next to it). you might need to do two coats of a really huge sample swatch.

or go with your gut and choose the SW pure white you already know you like!

If I were in your situation, wanting a modern white throughout your home and loving the way SW Pure White looks in 2 rooms, I would probably stay with the Pure White for the rest of your home. If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;) I love the look of pure white walls with color introduced through furniture, textiles, and/or accessories.

If you are craving something with a little tint on the walls but aren't loving the creamy/"dirty" look of White Dove in your space, maybe you could try something like BM Misty Air. I LOVED that color when I sampled it for our open areas, but ultimately decided it was a little too crisp and modern for our space (we have a lot of craftsman woodwork/trim in our house). If you have more of a modern look going, it might be worth a try for you. It has a slight green tint but looks modern and fresh.

White Dove doesn’t work well in a room with little or north light. It does become dirty looking. So does China White.

I have white dove ceilings and trim all through my house ! my northfacing dark room has white dove trim and ceilings with white sand bm paint color ! it never ever has looked dirty or dull ! it is gorgeous ! there is not one room in my house that it looks dirty !
