Black is the last choice for a baby IMO but if you can’t paint I would for right now take that rug out of there ansd replace with something with a bit of lavender in it . Do you know if it is a boy or a girl. I would not paint anything else black for sure unless you are all into goth .

It’s a girl! (I’m super excited). I think she needs something to soften the room but don’t know what. Budget is of concern as well.

I would get drapes to cover as much of the window trim as possible the same ones on the closet and then just go looking for some soft colored bedding I found one on Bed Bath and Beyond but I can’t show it on here. Just google nursery bedding this is arug that might work now that I know its a girl Just keep everything else soft colors and with the drapes the black trim will be less of an issue. There are some really nice nursuries wth black cribs if you google them

There are plenty of girly crib sheets, blankets and fabrics that have lavender/mauve. Many have pink and lavender. You shouldn't have any trouble finding girly fabrics and wall art that look good in that room. mauve nursery

Ask the landlord if you can paint the room a white that is suggested by the landlord......the room looks off and it will stay off....doesn't hurt to ask. And it would be just one gallon of paint.....Behr at Home Depot goes a long way for the price.

Would it be possible to take the closet doors down and store them and replace with a pressure rod and a curtain?

My niece did her baby room in lavendar (looks gray in this photo but it's lavender) and gray. I like the dark and white contrast of the crib (daddy made it!) and think for your room the addition of some white. maybe bedding, curtains,rug. would keep it from looking like a "goth" teenager's room.

Love the pictures of the black and white accent nursery - you could no doubt use single sheets in black and white stripes with lavender accent to duplicate the window treatment at an affordable price. Do either of you sew? Black and white bedding can be more masculine but the poka dots give it the girly touch! Congratulations Auntie! Enjoy!

The baby won't care. Find some curtains and bedding and some pictures for the wall that the mom likes and make sure to get mom and dad a really comfortable chair for nursing, rocking, whatever in there. What nurseries really need are safe cribs and tables for diaper changing, a comfortable chair for the parent(s), lots of good books and interesting toys and love.
