I wouldn't move it over to the center. I don't know if it's the picture or reality, but I would move it over to the right a few inches so it lines up with the corner of the house in front of it.

The eye is not drawn to the posts. The eye is drawn to the tall windows on the right side (as I look at the photo). Maybe you're overanalyzing. You don't want it in front of your window and they aren't Corinthian columns that define the architecture so you're good. What a beautiful house! You did well.

For reference, This is how the plan has them laid out and that is how they did it. We have not screwed the middle post in so that we can decide. I think my problem is that I’ve just not seen it done quite like this (or maybe not noticed?), and am used to seeing posts spaced evenly. My husband and I are both on the fence about it so until we decide, we won’t finish screwing it in. Better to do it like we like and not move it later (I thought they already placed it but he got home and said they did not screw it in until we decide).

@rrah I think it might be the picture and the angle I took it at. If you look at it completely straight on, the post is lined up with the house edge like the plan shows, that I just posted.

I would move the post (actually would move all of them and rearrange the spacing to give the front door more prominence).

I find the wide open space for the windows confusing because I would tend to think that’s where your front door would be.....in the wider open area. I would want my front door to be more obvious and having more open space THERE seems more natural for your front entry. So....your front entry should have the widest opening IMO.

It looks like a poor time to be moving structural elements. Leave it where it is on the drawing.

Now is the time to get it right, not weeks after we move in. When we designed the plan, he asked me my thought as well and told me either way would work. I originally thought like we have it here on the plan. But, after the fact, am 2nd guessing it. No matter how these are placed (within reason obviously), they will serve their purpose of supporting the overhang, etc. I do want it to look visually pleasing to the eye though, especially being on the front of the home.

Not dead set in our paint color yet but leaning towards White Dove. Undecided also about trim color...keep it light or go black. (Porch undersides will be stained, currently raw alder wood)

What do you think about moving each middle post to line up with the window frame?

To me it looks like they're crowding the window in your last mockup. If you really want to shift them, perhaps center them on the siding to the left of the windows and between windows and door on the right side.

A post between the door and windows so as to not block either and another post on the other side of the windows the same distance from the windows and another post on the corner -- which is what you appear to have, would be my preference.

Have you considered extending just that part of the porch roof in front of the entry door so it is one continuous roof that wraps around in front of the right side of your home rather than have that shed roof overhang sticking out by itself -- and extend the porch floor, too. That puts your front porch at the front of your home and you could use the shallow "porch floor" beneath the what is now an individual overhang as a place to set a row of potted plants rather than planting against the house and yet still have your favorite flowers in front of your low/tall windows.

What suezbell said. Leave them the way they are.

If you move them as cd7733 suggests, you'll have two posts in the view out the window instead of one (nobody looks telescopically straight ahead out a window, our field of view is wider).

Your house is not symmetrical; there's no reason that your porch posts should be. As they are, you have 2 equal spaces on the sides and one larger one in the middle; the spaces are symmetrical.

I would move both columns. Your front entrance is secondary to the windows in their current location. It is lost. It needs to be more prominent. A larger spacing to me would normally be to the entrance not a window. The way the house looks from the outside as a first impression is more important to me than a post blocking the view from a window.

I prefer the columns to be equally spaced. You could add one column in the large space or move the existing one to the front of the windows. That being said, if you didn't want a post in front of the window that should have been done in the planning stage.

Leave them where they are they look great

I would have had them lined up with the spaces on either side of the window
