I piece borders all the time. ONce they are quilted the join is not that noticeable. Ideally I think they should be joined at an angle but I do mine straight.

I just figured it out. Match it like you would a plaid when making garments. I stared at it until that thought came to me. It has about a 4" repeat (both ways), so hopefully it will be easy to match.

I have plenty of fabric, just not enough to cut the side borders in one piece.

If I can't match the pattern, I'll piece the border with a third piece (fussy-cut) in the center.

I also have pieced borders when necessary. Nobody ever notices but me, lol.

If you put the extra piece in on an angle - the same way you join sections of binding - it is less noticeable than if sewn on with a straight seam. This may or may not make any difference depending on what your border fabric is.

I often piece and think nothing of it. I also stick in little blocks to fill the gap so it looks like a design I made on purpose.
