Isn't this enough seating?

the single chair in the corner belongs in my loft and is only there for visual help. it is a CU2 Bassett sectional and Thompson Tall reclining chair. although i would love a console table, husband feels our 3 cats would knock it over, and he likes the wide walkway. if i go with a single chair, i am leaning on a medium-high back chair, such as a wingback. thoughts? having one single chair would provide plenty of seating for most gatherings.

BeverlyFLADeziner, husband want his chair facing straight with the fireplace, instead of angled, which if angled, would look better. maybe i'm being silly, but i feel that for conversation and balance, another chair(s) is needed. i've scrolled through so many houzz/online pictures to find a layout meeting preferences, and i can't find anything.

Does your husband need a separate chair for himself or could he sit on the part of the sectional facing the tv?

Is the sectional returnable? I would do two facing sofas and then two chairs facing the TV. Or, can the TV be moved to a wall we don’t see?

Sectional was custom and cannot be returned. Although I love the look of 2 sofas and 2 chairs, we didn’t want to block the view from of our rolling farm land. Husband will only use the chair; he’s definitely a creature of habit. Behind the wall not seen is a staircase to the basement. Due to wires and other tech, the tv needs to stay on the fireplace.

I know he wants to directly face the TV, but would your husband consider having it a little askew (with a tiny drink table inbetween it and the sofa)? It seems there is a side table/lamp by the window so it's not really a walkway, right? How do you get to the interior area (where the coffee table is)? Seems like you'd have to walk around the sectional to the fireplace, but that seems tight too. At most 1 other chair but I don't think I'd add another one; it looks cramped.

It's a bit tight there..I would probably not have that armchair there at all, but since your husband wants an armchair there, see if you can angle it a bit..he could still see the tv very well, without any problems. It looks pretty awkward as an extension of the sofa. I wouldn't add any other armchair than what you have now..it gets too crowded

thank you for your input. there is about 2 feet between the wall/window and round end table, so we do use it as a walkway. we have 2 points of entrance/exit to the coffee table. the other side has 4 feet between the built-ins and end table.i totally agree and want to angle the chair. perhaps i need to be more persuasive.

unfortunately, we can not rotate like the pictures because we have a square hall area that connects the master, half bath and laundry room. this is certainly a forum for the 'design dilemma'!

i just want to thank everyone for their help in this discussion and give an update. i purchased a console table, single chair, airier coffee table, and more narrow yet longer end table. i removed the sectional's right side end table, scooted the sectional and chair forward by a foot to allow adequate walkways, and currently search for a floor lamp to go next to the single chair.

Off topic a bit. How do you like the sectional you bought. I am looking at very similar one there too.

i love the sectional (bassett cu2), just wish the fabric held up better to cat claws, but it was what was in our budget. the memory foam seat cushions are worth the extra $.

Thank you tncatgirl. Did you upgrade to what the call the Revolution fabric. Although I suspect not much will hold up long term to cat claws. I have a dog that likes to “make his bed” on my current sofa. :)

No, I didn’t upgrade to the Revolution fabric. I’ve heard good things about it though.
