Guest bedroom needing some tlc.

Hi, I have about 3 weeks until the guests arrive and I need some help. This bedroom has just what you see a lovely bed from Crate and Barrel. I need to add quite a few items and was wondering where to start. I was also thinking to add some other colours to bring this navy to life. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thankyou. Sidenote: Current lighting is just pot lights, however I thought a nice chandelier would be nice. What colour to use brass, nickel e.t.c not sure on.

night stands with lamps and pictures for the wall. If you have the ceiling wired already, grab a cute chandelier. Do you have room for a dresser on other end? otherwise something for foot of bed for them to lay suitcase on, etc.

    Have fun.

I like the bed, but not the comforter on it. Maybe change that. I'd go for the essentials before a chandelier(can do later). The essentials: nightstands, curtains, artwork, lamps.

Never mind the chandelier just yet. What guests appreciate are the following:

--bedside tables or shelves to put down books, watch, phone, change, flashlight, etc.

--either bedside lamps or wall lamps for reading

--a small desk and chair for laptop.

--a couple folding luggage racks where guest can put down their suitcases

--a lidded bench at the end of the bed for putting down clothes, storing bedding, etc.

--blackout curtains--tan.cream and navy pattern would look great.

I would add bedside tables, either wood if you want storage, or metal and glass if not, and then two white table lamps. The bedside lights are more important than a chandelier. As an alternative to the table lamps, you can use hanging lights above each end table or wall sconces, but that gives you less flexibility to change the room later. You also need some sort of window covering. With limited floor space, I would use a simple exterior mounted roman shade or interior mounted roll down shade rather than full drapes. Try to add a small side chair or bench somewhere in the room, if possible. Add interesting large artwork or a large framed mirror to the beige wall across from the window.

Top priorities should be and tables and lamps on the end table. Forget the chandelier. Without more pictures of the Room, it's impossible to say what else you need. Do you have a dresser? Do you have window coverings? Is there a closet?

I actually like the comforter very much - I almost bought one like that for our master. Besides what the others have mentioned (bedside tables, lamps - I like table lamps even if there's a ceiling light), what is lacking is color beyond the muted palate. A potted palm would be nice, a wrapped canvas print over the bed or on the wall opposite the window. If you've taken a lot of photos, you can get a wrapped canvas done at Costco or GreatBigCanvas.com (they often have 50% off).

No window coverings. Yes the walk in closet is fully finished so they can hang everything in there. The wall behind me has a flat screen tv mounted to the wall. I noticed someone above said the duvet wasn't great? I just wanted to keep it simple and perhaps add some colour with a decorative cushion. Just trying to get ideas of a nice colour that would make the navy pop.

Thankyou for the suggestions though.. @User@calidesign@housegal200@shirlpp

Skip the chandelier...it won’t add useful light.
A guest needs a comfortable bed, a nightstand with a good lamp, a comfortable chair, a closet with enough hangers, a few dresser drawers, a good mirror, somewhere to put their luggage, their own set of towels and face cloths, and maybe an illuminated clock.
The room also needs window coverings for privacy and light control, some art, and some additional color (an accent color).

    YES to housegal200.

Like the bed and comforter/spread and shams -- simple and classic. Keep it.

A cedar chest at the foot of the bed can serve as both luggage table and bench for brief sitting and putting on shoes and to store bedding intended for use in the room.

Since time is of the essence, consider that lighting and shelving can both be added with the purchase of two lamp/shelving combo units that provide a place for cell phones to be recharged and alarm clocks and wallets or purses or eyeglasses to be placed at night. While inexpensive versions are available at that big box store that seems to be in every town, you might want to add something heavy to the bottom shelf if they only have the lighter weight ones in stock. If you have shopping time, do see if you can find a heavier sturdier wood version. Note: the light shade color and light bulb color can make a huge difference in whether the lighting works for you.

Another note: That big box store will take back undamaged items within thirty days with receipt (and, preferably) original packaging they can tape back together ... so, if you cannot find more durable items (more expensive stuff) you truly want to keep permanently, don't just settle for expensive stuff you don't really like.

Also, don't waste time trying to add art, etc. to the wall. With shelving, you could (temporarily), if you wish, add a framed family photo or two that includes your guests and your own immediate family.

You really don't seem to have room for a reading chair. You might look for a bed backrest (or two) if you know with certainty that your guests like to read in bed.

As long as you have shades on the windows, you needn't rush to pick curtains/drapes. After you get the necessities in place, then take the time to pick out window treatments.

Nobody mentioned a TV? They’re very cheap right now and always much appreciated by my guests.

OP: I think what everyone is saying is to focus first on comfort and function, not "looks," i.e. reading lights are more important than a chandelier. This goes for any room--comfort and function then style/color/decor that enhance how the room works.

Is there another dresser? Make sure to buy lots of velvet hangers for the closet. Night stands and lamps are critical. And a chair or bench. Too many decorative pillows are annoying to guests. Now they have to remove them at night and put them - where? On the floor? Keep the bed simple.

This chart will help you get the table/lamp height right for the bed.

All good comments here. I liked njmomma's pics because the gold echoes the beige walls you have. Gold and navy are a classic traditional combo. Look for traditional or mirrored nightstands like prev suggested. I have also seen the look of a mirror behind each nightstand lamp to add light. Not sure what the rest of the room looks like. Under the tv you can look for a traditional dresser even painted navy. A few framed pictures with navy and other colors would be good too. Great start so far!
