Don't decorate it. Hang art just below it. Take your eye OFF the acoustical tile ceiling : ) Not every horizontal surface requires a "something".

What is the purpose of the cut out?

I think it’s cool, and would probably put some funky art in it (lean a couple of canvases or prints on one side, not hanging up in there) .... and since I love pottery, that, too. But we don’t know anything about your decor style/preferences, so ... ?

Regardless, I’d wait until you’ve put your furniture in, and go from there.

If there's any way you can get rid of the acoustical tile ceiling I would advise that. That is a big turnoff for prospective buyers (although you may not be planning to sell any time soon). You could get rid of the cutout but otherwise it would make a good display ledge or a spot for some funk long and linear artwork. I would suggest a long linear planter with foliage that spill out and down the wall a bit but not sure if that spot gets enough light for any type of plant. Good luck!

I don’t love acoustic ceilings either but we have hot water baseboard heating and water lines running everywhere in our basement so IMO it is a necessity and I have in another house had a DW flood and had to replace wet drywall and I’ll take the ceiling tiles any day.

I like it, and as the area will become a place to dine, I'd probably display a collection of large-ish pottery or crockery pieces there. You certainly don't have to get rid of it. Having recently had drywall work done in my own home, I can attest that it ain't cheap.
